Why You Might be Getting a Phone Call from Ellen DeGeneres

The next time your phone rings and you hear Ellen DeGeneres’ voice on the other end don’t hang up. It’s not a joke. (Unless you have a crazy cousin who likes to impersonate the comedienne.) DeGeneres has teamed up with vitamin maker One A Day to record a series of phone messages urging women to fight back against breast cancer. The messages can be delivered by online request to concerned loved ones who may or may not be at risk for the deadly disease. The popular daytime talk show host says her goal in recording the messages is to encourage … Continue reading

Leo: One of Michael Vick’s Rescued Pit Bulls

The other night Inside Edition ran a story about one of the pit bulls rescued from Michael Vick’s dog fighting ring. His name is Leo, and he now lives in California with his new owner, Marthina McClay, who’s a member of Our Pack, a pit bull rescue organization. Leo’s Life with Marthina As you might imagine, Leo’s life with his new owner is a far cry from what it was with Mr. Vick and company. Gone are his days of dog fighting. But he still works. Though these days it’s as a therapy dog. That’s right. You read me right. … Continue reading

One in Four Toddlers Improperly Vaccinated

CDC researchers are concerned because recent studies show that one in four toddlers are improperly vaccinated. Either they are missing doses or are given vaccinations too early or too late. However, the CDC is calling this a “wake up” call. Interestingly, one issue that the study discovered was that babies were being immunized too early. If a baby or toddler is immunized too early and/or has their shots too close together, the CDC counted them as invalid saying that there is a window of optimal response. If your baby has the shot too early, then the response might not be … Continue reading

Ailing Crooners

Singer Robert Goulet, 73, is heavily sedated and breathing through a respirator as he awaits a lung transplant. The doctors have told Goulet’s wife, Vera, that a lung transplant has the highest success rate (88 percent) of all transplants. However, a suitable donor for Goulet has not been found yet. The National Lung Association stated that in 2005, only 25% of the 3,500 people on the waiting list actually received a lung transplant. Goulet performed on September 20th in Syracuse, NY, but fell ill shortly after the concert when he was on his way home to Las Vegas. At first, … Continue reading

The Passive Aggressive Spouse

Is your spouse passive aggressive? The words passive and aggressive seem in direct opposition to each other – but the truth is when your spouse is passive aggressive you may feel like you are sleeping with a porcupine in sheep’s clothing. What Does It Mean For a Spouse to Be Passive Aggressive? A passive aggressive spouse may never seem angry, but you discover that your shorts have been shrunk in the wash or the errand you assumed they were doing is completely skipped. I know one woman who’s always been passive aggressive in her relationships and no matter how furious … Continue reading

Which One is the Aggressive One?

Or insert any other adjective instead of aggressive. Which one is the shy, mean, nice, one? As a mother of twins I hate this question. It necessarily confines me to label one or the other. Equally annoying however, is the tendency to assume that if one is one way, the other must be the opposite. For example, the girls were recently watched and someone asked which one was the aggressive one? That would be Emily. Hands down–Emily is aggressive. She likes to play physically and is most happy being tossed through the air or wrestled to the ground. She instigates … Continue reading

Saving Money Versus Paying Off Debt

Is it wiser to pay off your debt aggressively or should you begin to put money in savings? How do you decide which is best for your situation? This answer is a tricky one and one that you ultimately will need to decide. The first step is to make sure that you are no longer living beyond your means. It does not make a lot of sense to be putting five hundred dollars a month into savings while you are charging that much or more a month on your credit card. If you have your spending habits under control, then … Continue reading

An Aggressive Form Of Breast Cancer You NEED To Know About

Last month was Breast Cancer Awareness Month and while I concentrated on making you aware of the various retailers helping to combat the disease, I neglected to provide much information on the most aggressive form of breast cancer–many women have never heard of it. My mother is a breast cancer survivor. Two years ago she was diagnosed with Stage 2 cancer and underwent a series of treatments. Today she is still not 100%, but is on the road to recovery. Prior to her diagnosis I was aware of the disease (moderately), but knew nothing of the most aggressive form of … Continue reading
