What's In A Name? Nature Names for Babiesby tedgar | More from this Blogger 31 Oct 2009 03:04 PM
I adore baby names. I love the sound of them, I love putting them together into groups of two, three, and four. When I was pregnant with my daughter, I obsessed about the meanings of names. I love hiking in our local forests and beside rivers, and I wanted to name her something that would reflect that love. A name with water in it? A name that meant forest, perhaps? We ended up with a name for our daughter that was both inspired by nature and was fairly subtle about its origins. The subtle part is from my husband. I am less than subtle about my name choices, tending towards the super old-fashioned and the wildly nature-inspired hippie names. Of course, we also tried to honor family members and friends in our choices: see my last blog post for that discussion! What did we come up with in our search? For those of you who are looking for a nature-inspired name that will also blend in with the crowd, here are some good choices: Names for Girls Ava: Bird Brooke: A brook Cari: Flowing like water Evelyn: Bird Jena: Little bird Liana: vine that grows in the forest Lindsay: Linden trees near the water Lynn: Beautiful waterful Nebraska: Flat and open water Names for Boys Calder: Rough water Clyde: A river in Scotland Douglas: Flowing from the dark river Dover: British seaport, water Eaton: Village by the river Jay: A blue bird Kai: Sea Keith: forest Merrick: Ruler of the sea Wade: Cross the water Wyatt: Water Have you named your child after something in nature?
