Mother Writes Lovely Blog About her Preemie

Every once in a while, it is nice to read a lovely blog that a mother has written about her child. There is a blog called Micro-Preemie to Miracle that mom Sarah Bollinger started about her son, Everett, who was born at 15 weeks premature. He’s come a long way! I always find stories about preemies to be very interesting. There is something fascinating about the story of a teeny, tiny, baby that struggles to grow and thrive. Often, their stories are uplifting and inspiring. It is nice to read something positive! Last December, I wrote about a preemie named … Continue reading

Three Ways to Avoid Holiday Debt

It is easy to start racking up the debt during the holiday season. There are many demands on our money, such as holiday gifts, special events, travel costs, food, decorations, and other entertaining costs. We often get carried away when we spot the perfect gift or want to make it the best season ever. As you are planning, cooking and shopping, you might want to use the following strategies to avoid holiday debt. Start with a Holiday Budget In order to control holiday spending instead of letting holiday spending control you, you will need to set a budget. Start with … Continue reading

Nine Months Old Part II

Along with my daughter’s increased appetite and flourishing palate, she has, of course, correlating growth. Throughout the course of the summer I have watched my daughter’s clothes slowly become shorter and tighter. While my daughter can easily fit into nine month clothes (with extra space in fact), several of her three to six month outfits still fit. However, we are transitioning into fall and even if most of her summer clothes fit, they are not appropriate for cold weather (which we have had a lot of). Still, I have been able to salvage several pairs of pants (leggings really) and … Continue reading

Six Months Old

When I first gazed into my daughter’s dark blue eyes, her half birthday seemed like it was very far away. Yet, here we are celebrating my daughter reaching the six month milestone. These past six months have gone by so quickly but in those six months we have enjoyed watching our little baby girl grow and develop into the happy and active baby that she is. At six months she is still very much bald with a small patch of dark hair at the nape of her neck. Her hair is slowly growing in and her peach fuzz is developing … Continue reading

Unrealistic Expectations Are No Fun For Anyone

Today, I realized that one of the most frustrating things about being the parent of a toddler has nothing to do with the toddler at all. Nor does it have anything to do with his two month old baby brother. Nope, the source of my frustration is none other than – myself. You see, I have been setting unrealistic expectations for myself and then getting mad at myself for falling short of them. Examples are helpful, so let’s take a minute to compare what I had hoped to accomplish today with what I actually did accomplish. Keep in mind that … Continue reading

Traveling With a Three Month Old

We have taken a lot of long trips with our son beginning when he was three months old. Many of our trips were from Texas to the midwest, a fifteen hour drive. Our biggest concern was how our son would handle such a long trip at such a young age. Thinking ahead, I knew that my cluster feeder would need to nurse frequently but nursing him in the car while the car was in motion was not an option. I could not fathom having to stop every hour or so to nurse our son especially since we can normally make … Continue reading

My Three Month Old Daughter

I cannot seem to say it enough: babies grow too fast! The first three months of my daughter’s life have just flown. On the very day she turned three months old, she also became exactly thirteen weeks old. While thirteen weeks seems like nothing to adults, new babies accomplish quite a bit in that short amount of time. Gone is the newness of the newborn stage, she has graduated from merely eating, sleeping, and diaper filling. She is no longer content with the general passivity of sleeping, she spends a good portion of her day engaged in the world around … Continue reading

Jake Barnett is twelve years old, and has an IQ of 170. He also has aspergers syndrome. His interest in astronomy and advanced mathematics eventually lead him to question the calculations of Einstein’s theory of relativity. This, from a child who psychologists thought would always remain detached from the world around him. Asperger’s syndrome is a form of autism. It’s been described as high functioning autism. Symptoms tend to include an intensely focused interest in one particular subject to the point where the person knows everything about it. Other symptoms involve delayed motor skills, a lack of eye contact, and … Continue reading

Nicole Richie Expecting Baby No. 2

Four months ago Nicole Richie told reporters that she would rather have a nap than another baby, but apparently her rocker boyfriend got his way. According to Richie’s boy toy, Joel Madden, the couple is prepping to add a new kiddo to the mix. In a message on the Good Charlotte (the band Madden fronts) website, he wrote, “I am so happy to tell everyone that Harlow is going to be a big sister! God has truly blessed my family. Hope [you’re] all feeling as good as i am right now.” Harlow is Harlow Winter Kate Madden, Richie and Madden’s … Continue reading
