Virtual Brag Book

I’m a parent, but I’m not on Facebook. So, if you want to see random photos of my cute kid, you have to come to my house or check in with this blog on a regular basis because I’m not looking to hop on the Facebook bandwagon anytime soon… or ever. GASP! Right? I know. I am a member of a dying breed. Everybody’s doing it, so why am I holding out? I’m waiting for Anderson Cooper to feature me on a show dedicated to non-Facebook users under the age of 60. I’ll work it like a virgin. After all, … Continue reading

Do You Brag about Working from Home?

I posted a Facebook status this week that managed to get quite a few likes. Yet I had hesitated on posting it because I didn’t want to sound like I was bragging. It was on a day that was absolutely gorgeous outside. Low 70’s with a breeze. I managed to finish my day’s work an hour before my children were expected home from school. So I went outside with my Kindle Fire and sat in my favorite corner of the yard. In addition to enjoying “Words with Friends,” reading and looking at my email, I decided to post a status … Continue reading

Are You a Scrapbooking Show-Off?

Maybe it’s because I am constantly searching for inspiration, or perhaps I have better things in life to worry about, but I am not the type of person, who gets my undies in a knot, when a fellow scrapper wants to show off her latest and greatest layouts. Last weekend I witnessed an ugly scene at my local scrapbook shop which reinforced my philosophy that a little humility can go a long way. A shop regular was paging through the display albums on the “Theme of the Month” table when two other women waltzed by and started commenting on the … Continue reading

Luxury Scrapbooks

Is leather truly better? If I were independently wealthy I would seriously consider placing my memories exclusively in leather scrapbooks. I love the look, smell and feel of leather goods, and scrapbooks are no exception. Unfortunately, genuine leather memory books are a bit pricey. Still, if you have the means, I would highly suggest preserving your prized photos and memorabilia in leather books. In addition to looking extremely attractive, leather albums are typically more durable than scrapbooks made from vinyl or canvas fabric. Moreover, if you are scrapping items that you want to keep for generations to come, leather albums … Continue reading

The Party Favor (a homeschooling brag session)

My son went to a birthday party yesterday of a kid in a nearby city who homeschools. They are good friends, but don’t get to see each other too often, so even though it was a Sunday afternoon, and my dad was visiting, I drove the 20 minutes, dropped him off, met the dad (already knew the mom) and spent the next three hours window shopping and eating dinner with my dad and daughter. Taking him to the party was a huge inconvenience, but you know us homeschoolers must socialize! Anyway, at the end of the three hours, I returned. … Continue reading

“Humphrey” Books by Sally Hunter

We all know that I’m a pushover for cute illustrations. These books by Sally Hunter grabbed me as soon as I grabbed them. Humprey is an absolutely adorable little elephant, drawn in a style that reminds me quite a bit of Precious Memories. The colors in these books are soft pastels, all the edges and lines of the pictures are softened and not sharp, and when you open the book you feel as though you’ve stepped into a nursery. In the first book I’m featuring today, entitled “Humphrey’s Corner,” Humphrey is looking for a place to play. First he finds … Continue reading

Friday Scrapbook Funnies: How To Get Your Husband To Scrapbook and Like It!

HOW TO GET YOUR HUSBAND TO SCRAPBOOK AND LIKE IT by Nicole Humphrey As it would go, men don’t tend to be the most creative beings on the planet. In fact, creativity for them often entails deciding which chips will taste best and compliment the sports team he’s watching on TV. But in reality, men are really creative and can enjoy our hobby as much as we do. (ok, perhaps NOT as much, but maybe at least half as much). To begin, you need to purchase your husband a camera. I strongly recommend a digital camera with an automatic setting. … Continue reading

What is a Brag Book?

A brag book is the wallet you unfold or the little photo album you carry around in your purse that plays host to a dozen or more of your favorite baby pictures. Brag books are popular with grandparents and parents alike, but the great thing about a brag book is that it can be as fun or complicated or as simple as you like. Scrap Booking the Brag Book In this case, I got the following idea from my mother. She loves to design picture frames that match the subject of the picture. In fact, she used one of my … Continue reading

ABC Scrapbooks – Getting Started

I absolutely adore ABC scrapbooks! They are so much fun and such a great way to use up duplicate photos, leftover stickers, scraps of paper, old die cuts, all those millions of punchies you have, and more! But how do you go about getting started with an ABC album? It’s actually pretty easy! The glory of an ABC album is that they can be made for anyone. From preschoolers as a learning tool, to grandparents as a wonderful way to commemorate an occasion or as a brag book, they are always treasured. Another great feature of an ABC album is … Continue reading

Scrapbooking Your Weight Loss Changes

Did you hear that correctly? Did I say scrapbooking the changes you are employing in your life for your weight loss? Absolutely. And let me tell you why. For those who scrapbook, they are preserving not only memories but a detailed memoir of changes that occur in their lives of their subjects. The scrapbook you make about your child, for example, would detail the various changes in their lives from dance recitals to first steps to first vacations. How Does This Affect Your Weight Loss?
