What is Your 9 Month Old Up To?

On the surface, it may not look like your baby changes all that much from month to month, but in reality, they change incredibly. Often, the days fly by, and we see little milestones every day, so we don’t realize how in a month’s time how different they really are! From month 8 until now, the average person might not see that much of a difference in my little guy, but I see a lot. For example, he talks to us non-stop now. He is really communicating. He says bye bye deliberately. When he sees a dog, he is so … Continue reading

Suddenly Picky? (Tips for Your Miniature Food Critic)

Recently I have noticed that my son has been acting a little more picky at meal time. Often if he does not want something, he will insist on pushing it out of his reach. He will also throw it on the floor, flick it off his plate, or offer it to my husband or me to eat instead. Some of the foods are new and I understand why he would not like them, but other foods are past favorites and I am baffled by the fact that he has decided to reject them out of the blue! Sometimes we are … Continue reading

How To Pick Your Baby’s Name

For some expectant parents, choosing a name for their new baby is a no-brainer. Some women have had their baby’s name picked out for years. Some families look forward to passing down a family name. Some couples will even name their child after the city or place in which they were conceived, like all four of Ron Howard’s children. (Can you guess which state daughter Bryce Dallas was conceived in?) For those of us who don’t have a name lined up, however, picking out a name can be pretty tricky. After all, you’ll probably say it about 3 million times … Continue reading

5 Great Christmas Gifts for the Homeschooling Family on Your List

I am always looking for something that’s educational but is not the equivalent of getting socks and underwear to my kids. This is no small feat, but it can be done. Consider putting the following in the stockings or under the trees of the homeschoolers you love! 1. Educational Games Everyone loves a good board game. So why not pick up a gift certificate for an online store like Fun Again.com? Too many choices? I am personally partial to plunder chess. Leap Frog has also come out with a series of board games that help teach early learning skills. 2. … Continue reading

The Best of October in the Baby Blog

October was a busy month here at the Baby blog and we enjoy bringing you the articles and stories that we do. I wanted to post this a few days ago, but I have been pretty buried offline and in other areas, so I apologize for the delay in bringing you are best of October here in the baby blog. A handful of articles were given to a panel of voters and part of the delay was that we had a tie, so I cast the deciding vote. The best of October this month is a three part series brought … Continue reading

Your Baby and Emotional & Social Milestones

This is a check list of milestones for social and emotional behavior. It is a guideline. It is NOT the be all and end all to what your baby should be doing. I see many moms, especially new ones, rush to the doctor as soon as their child has missed something a chart says they should be doing. Childhood development is not an exact science. If little junior doesn’t hit a couple markers it’s probably not a big deal. In fact four of my five children have missed a few markers by months. Interestingly, they’ve hit a few markers a … Continue reading

Baby Loves

I am a very lovey dovey kind of Mom. I hug and kiss on my kids (especially when they’re babies) all the time! So, one of my favorite things is when they start to “give loves” back to you. It is the best. Well, I first noticed my baby giving loves to a stuffed animal the other day when my niece was visiting. She gave him a stuffed animal, and he put it up next to his face and snuggled it between his head and his shoulder. It was adorable. One of the best feelings is when they can wrap … Continue reading

Holiday Time Crunch

Do you wait until January to craft holiday-themed layouts? I used to stock up on festive Christmas-themed embellishments, papers and memorabilia throughout the month of December, and then go into hiding during the first week of January to complete a marathon scrapbooking session.  However, my pages never turned out as well as I would have liked given my time crunch.  I felt pressure to slap together holiday memory albums just so I could cross it off my to-do list.  What’s more, I was extremely bothered by the idea of working on Christmas scrapbooks when Valentine’s Day was just around the … Continue reading

Pick Me Up!

My little guy is at such a fun stage right now, but there are some things that he does that are not so fun. I have a little secret. My baby yells at me! It sounds funny to say it, but it is the best way to describe what he does to let me know he is not happy. Gone are the days when he had a little sweet newborn cry. With a full house with three kids, he has to make sure he gets mama’s attention. I guess that means that sometimes he needs to step it up a … Continue reading
