The Missing Diaper

We’ve had a pretty good run so far. It was going so well. Everything seemed like it was in order. Everything carefully aligned and balanced. Running to perfection. I suppose, in hindsight, that it was just the calm before the storm. The silence was the only sound heralding the soon-to-be lunacy we could not imagine but would soon confront face to face. Now, after staring into the face of something lacking logic and having devious consequences, I am left shaking. I am shaking my head and I am shaking my hands. Mostly, however, I am shaking my finger. Actually, it’s … Continue reading

Buying Clothes for Your Toddler

This past week I went shopping for some new clothes for my toddler. He recently went through a growth spurt and half of the items in his closet no longer fit. I always buy clothes that are a little big and he wears them until they are a little small. He had a closet full of 12 month clothes and a small selection of 18 month clothes. I bought him quite a few 2T clothes and a small selection of 3T for him to grow into. There is a trick to buying big. You have to find clothes that can … Continue reading

I Didn’t Realize Babies Came With Hats

There are many things that I remember about the day and the night surrounding the birth of my daughter. I remember that it was raining, a cold, drizzling rain. I remember going to see my OB/GYN for a late afternoon appointment. I remember my feet were swollen up like balloons and that I was wearing these oversized rope sandals because they were only thing comfortable. I remember walking across the cold pavement and not really feeling the cold at all. I remember that the doctor’s office was unusually busy and that every chair held a pregnant woman in varying stages … Continue reading

Toddler Talking Tips

One of the neatest transformations that you have a front row seat for is the transformation of your baby into a little person with their own thoughts, ideas and conversational gambits. For months after you child is born, you will have any number of conversations with them. Most of these conversations will be one sided – where you do all the talking. Sometime around their second birthday, your child develops the ability to talk back. Their conversations may only include a handful of phrases and they may not have the ability as yet to say all the things they want … Continue reading

Teaching Our Children Modesty

Think your children are too young to learn modesty and respect? You might think again. Most parents work with their children at a young age teaching them to respect others. Teaching modesty and self-respect should happen at a young age. Let me clarify a bit on the modesty issue with babies and toddlers. I don’t believe modesty is as applicable to younger toddlers. Babies and toddlers are very into their own world anyway so teaching them self respect in the way I’ll be discussing may not be beneficial until closer to age 3. When our older son was about three, … Continue reading
