Could Too Much Milk Cause Colic-Like Symptoms In Your Baby?-Part II

While I’m no expert on this subject of overactive letdown and oversupply of milk, I’m excited to share this information with other Moms! I’m still trying to figure this all out myself, because my hope is that my baby who is suffering from the same symptoms I spoke about in Part I of this article, is actually having a problem with my supply, and NOT a problem with the foods I eat. However, in my case, I am currently cutting out dairy, soy, chocolate, corn, eggs, and nuts. I also have a prescription for an acid reflux medication if dietary … Continue reading

Remedies for Colic

I have to admit this is a blog researched and written out of sheer curiosity. I have never had a truly “colicky” baby. I have had one baby who was what I would consider high need, but once our nursing issues resolved, things did get better. Furthermore, by my definition colic is crying for several hours at a stretch. My baby was just fussy if I wasn’t holding her. It was exhausting, but it was not colic. I was in a baby store recently scouring the clearance racks. (Is there another way to dress twins?) I was amazed as I … Continue reading

When It Is a Struggle To Breastfeed

Many women have difficulties when trying to breastfeed. I’ve never really put myself in that class of women because I’ve always had an ample supply, and my babies have always latched on easily. This baby is no different. However, I found myself wanting to give up breastfeeding last week. I was in a lonely place. I was severely sleep deprived due to 3 nights of pretty much no sleep as I trialed eggs in my diet to see if my little guy could tolerate them. He can’t. I realized, that I also have a struggle with breastfeeding, but it is … Continue reading

Pregnancy and Relationships: Your Marriage

For the final installment of my Pregnancy and Relationships series, I am going to talk about marriage. I’m saving the best for last, since pregnancy will have the greatest impact on the two people who started it. It’s hard to describe in 500 words or less the kind of changes that will take place when two people move from being a couple to a family. Suddenly, your whole world revolves around the well being and development of an eight pound, crying, pooping, drooling mess with big round eyes, dimples and a smile that will make you melt every time. The … Continue reading

Sexy Valentine’s Day Recipes

Raw oysters, caviar and chocolate are classic aphrodisiacs, but what about artichokes and other seafood? Apparently, scallops and artichokes also have mood-enhancing properties and are highly recommended eats on Valentine’s Day. (At least according to the “food experts” I consulted for this piece.) Just in time for Love Day, the following sexy treats should help spice up your dinner plans. If you really want to heat things up during mealtime, I would suggest indulging in these dishes sans utensils. Instead, use your fingers to feed the Artichoke Pizza to your sweetie. After all, fewer utensils to wash means more time … Continue reading

Baby Blues – Rick Kirkman and Jerry Scott

Mother’s Day is coming so I’ve been trying to think of books for mothers. And what mother doesn’t need a laugh? The Baby Blues comic book collections are fantastic. I think all parents can relate to the adventures of Wanda and Darryl McPherson and baby Zoe, no matter if they are new parents adjusting to life with baby, or those of us whose baby days are long over. These comics, written by Jerry Scott and drawn by Rick Kirkman, include all those moments – playing possum so that your spouse will get up and get the baby, adjusting to breastfeeding, … Continue reading

Sleep Deprivation and Infant Abuse?

The CDC recently published a shocking report. According to their study, 91,000 infants per year are abused or neglected during their first year of life and about 33% of those abuse cases occur within the first week of life. Experts everywhere are calling for more focus to be put on this critical time period of mom adjusting to caring for a newborn. Especially if the newborn shows traits of being colicky or fussy. (I just have to point out here that most babies aren’t colicky or really fussy in the hospital.) While the statistics are shocking there are a few … Continue reading
