Tips for Post Partum Exercise

There is a lot to be said about post partum exercise. Whether the motivation is to lose pregnancy weight, get fit after baby, or to simply get back into the routine (all of these are my motivation to exercise post partum), there are a number of things that you can do to make your post partum workouts a success. First and foremost: mental preparation. You need to get it in your head that you are going to start working out as soon as you are physically able be it four weeks post partum or twelve weeks post partum. Based on … Continue reading

The Third Week Post-Partum

My third week post-partum began on the cusp of New Years and New Years Eve festivities. In the midst of healing and napping, combined with my every day house hold tasks, I some how found the time and motivation to finally buy the boots I wanted to get while I was pregnant. Perhaps it was a good thing that I waited until after my daughter was born. The boots became my first clothing purchase post-partum and my first mini celebration (I am still not ready to try on skinny jeans). It is rather strange how buying clothes gives a person … Continue reading

The First Week Post-Partum

The first week after giving birth to my daughter was filled with an array of a new kind business. I was not running errands or wrapping Christmas presents. I was busy changing my newborns diapers (and my own maxi pads … it is just part of giving birth). With changing diapers came changing outfits many of which where quite large on my seven and a half pound baby. I was busy sitting and nursing my newborn daughter and my uterus was busy contracting down. I was busy not doing housework. It actually takes a lot of work to tell some … Continue reading

Preparing for Your First Week as a Mom

As your due date approaches, concerns about how life will be after the baby comes are perfectly normal. Even if you have had a lot of experience babysitting other children, handling a newborn 24/7 and juggling motherhood with everything else can be a big challenge. Here are some things you can do to prepare: 1. Get plenty of rest. Resist the urge to stay up cleaning your house and sleep as much as possible during your last days of pregnancy. 2. Cook meals ahead of time. Prepare and freeze enough dinners to last you a solid week. You’ll be much … Continue reading

The Pre Pregnancy Jeans (Part II)

I lost twenty pounds in the first few weeks after my daughter was born. Of course I still had the ten pounds left from my first pregnancy. At two weeks post partum I was able to fit into a pair of my post first pregnancy pre second pregnancy jeans. Granted these particular jeans were a bit loose pre pregnancy and at two weeks post partum they were a little tight. Nonetheless, I was very happy that I could fit into these pre pregnancy jeans (which was very different from my first pregnancy; I bought jeans that were four sizes larger … Continue reading

Mommy Meddlers

This might appear as a vent session. In fact, I can almost guarantee it. But, I have to. I have three kids now, and my youngest is 11 weeks old. I have experienced Mommy meddling many times in having these three children. Yet, for some reason, it’s bugging me more and more the third time around. What am I talking about? I’m talking about people butting in on your parenting, or maybe, giving their two cents worth on something simple when you didn’t ask for it. I’m not talking about the meddling mother-in-law, or the very opinionated sister. No, I’m … Continue reading

The Skinny Jeans

At seven weeks post partum, I was itching for a new pair of jeans. After wearing the same maternity skinny jeans for over six weeks post partum, I was more than ready to put those jeans away with the rest of my maternity clothes. I have been exercising nearly every day for the last three weeks. Even though I am not back into all my pre-pregnancy clothes, all but one pair of my pre-pregnancy jeans fit again, which in my mind justified a new pair of jeans and not just any jeans; a pair of well fitting dark wash skinny … Continue reading

Placenta Encapsulation

I first heard about placenta encapsulation during the second trimester of my second pregnancy. One of my close friends had just had her third baby and she decided to have her placenta encapsulated for the first time. My friend testified to the immense health and recovery benefits received. My initial reaction was part disgust and part inquisitiveness. Consuming one’s placenta seemed a bit strange but it has numerous benefits to the post-partum mother. I began my own research on the subject and soon discovered for myself the healthful benefits behind placentophagy. My research told me that the placenta provides a … Continue reading
