The Sixth Week Post Partum

Reaching the sixth week post partum milestone is kind of monumental. Once this stage is reached, it seems that a new chapter of life begins. Transitions are numerous during this week and I found myself almost amazed of how many things changed during my sixth week post partum. At six weeks post partum I transitioned back into many of my pre-pregnancy clothes marking the beginning of a much anticipated physical change as my body really starts to work its way back to “normal.” Although the journey has just begun (my body still has a long way to go), I am … Continue reading

The Six Week Visit

On the day of my daughter’s birth, the six week visit seemed rather far away. Yet, here we are six weeks later and we, mommy and baby, are going for the last visit with our midwife. We have been looking forward to seeing our midwife again and after such a successful pregnancy and birth experience we are excited to bring our amazing pre and post natal journey to a close. We arrived early and parked on the street in front of the midwife’s house (like we had done numerous times before). This time our wonderful midwife greeted us from her … Continue reading

Week Thirty Seven

It never ceases to amaze me just how quickly the weeks seem to fly by towards the end of pregnancy. This has been a very busy week! My nesting instinct is in full force as I am finding myself wanting and needing to get everything done and organized before week thirty eight. From finishing Christmas gifts for extended family (parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and grandparents) to finishing nursery projects, to getting the house in order for the birth of our daughter, busy is what I have been! This week I spent several days making Christmas presents and putting gifts together … Continue reading

Our Tenth Prenatal Visit

It has been one short week since our last prenatal visit with our midwife. This visit was a little different than our previous visits because it began with a thirty six ultrasound. Our midwife likes to have a quick ultrasound done at around thirty six weeks to check the baby’s position and the amniotic fluid level. Thus, our tenth and first weekly visit began at the ultrasound clinic. Our midwife met us at the clinic. All four of us headed into the exam room (although it seemed more like a nice sitting room). The technician began the ultrasound and immediately … Continue reading

Our Ninth Prenatal Visit

It has only been two weeks since my last prenatal visit. The end is in sight! Weekly visits will follow until our daughter is born! As we approach the holidays, I seem to get busier and busier. So to ensure that I could get my workout in, I awoke early, ate a Greek yogurt and did my prenatal pilates before our visit with the midwife. Both my husband and son accompanied me to this visit (we had no impending package deliveries). We entered the cozy carriage house, our son took the opportunity to run around in the open space, while … Continue reading

Our Eighth Prenatal Visit

Three weeks have come and gone once again. This is our last appointment with a three week interval. From now onward we will meet with our midwife in two weeks and then every week until the baby is born. This particular day is a busy one for us so we awoke earlier than normal. After a quick breakfast of Greek yogurt, I exercised right away while our son slept and my husband worked on his dissertation. I wanted to get my workout done before the appointment because I wanted to avoid not being able to squeeze it in after the … Continue reading

Our Seventh Prenatal Visit

The morning of our seventh prenatal visit has arrived far more quickly than I had anticipated. With my recent return home from an extended visit to my sister’s (ten hours away), I feel a bit disorganized and ill prepared for today’s appointment. Sleeping in certainly did not help my feelings of unpreparedness, as I rushed around preparing breakfast and getting things together for our visit (while my husband took a business call which threatened his ability to come to the appointment at all). In the end my husband inhaled his cold omelet and threw on some shoes just as our … Continue reading

Our Sixth Prenatal Visit

This may have been the longest three weeks that I have experienced in quite awhile. I have been a little anxious for this prenatal visit given my last prenatal visit and my excessive weight gain. I have been meticulous these last three weeks about my diet, writing everything done in my food journal. Hopefully the scale will speak for all of my hard work! We arrived for our sixth prenatal visit a few minutes early, I headed for the carriage house bathroom with determination because I really had to go! Once again my urine was spot on (all the colors … Continue reading

Week Twenty Six

I started my twenty sixth week of pregnancy with the determination to severely limit my sugar consumption due to my excessive weight gain at my last prenatal visit. This has been my greatest challenge but it is amazing what a little will power can achieve. Every meal is accompanied by my food journal where everything that I consume is recorded along with a protein and calorie count. This helps me watch my sugar intake and it also helps prevent me from exceeding my (pregnant) daily caloric needs. In light of my commitment to avoid certain foods (in order to keep … Continue reading
