Introducing Solids Part III

Since my daughter’s desire for solid foods has increased in just a few short weeks, I am trying to give her a little bit of something at every meal from whatever I have prepared for the family. She got her first taste of peas (which in my mind are a baby food classic) when I made spicy stir fry (with a homemade chemical-free sauce). I squeezed the pea to release the softer inner portion and presented it to my daughter. She stared at it for a few seconds before she opened her mouth and moved her head closer to take … Continue reading

Our Daughter’s First Easter Part I

My daughter’s first Easter began with a hug from her big brother followed by lots of smiles and some laughter. She is always incredibly happy in the morning and Easter day was no exception. In preparation for early Easter Mass, I nursed her on both sides and gave her a good burping before dressing her in her Easter outfit. She wore her “party dress” a dress that I found on clearance at my favorite baby boutique the day after christmas, a pair of sparkly cream and silver metallic tights, and silver ballet flats. I had her pose for a few … Continue reading

The Pre Pregnancy Jeans (Part II)

I lost twenty pounds in the first few weeks after my daughter was born. Of course I still had the ten pounds left from my first pregnancy. At two weeks post partum I was able to fit into a pair of my post first pregnancy pre second pregnancy jeans. Granted these particular jeans were a bit loose pre pregnancy and at two weeks post partum they were a little tight. Nonetheless, I was very happy that I could fit into these pre pregnancy jeans (which was very different from my first pregnancy; I bought jeans that were four sizes larger … Continue reading

The Pre Pregnancy Jeans

There is a lot of anticipation for post partum women to get back into their pre pregnancy jeans. It seems to be an ever present goal one that marks the successful manipulation of the post pregnant body back to what is considered normal. To an even greater extent, a woman’s pre pregnancy jeans fitting again after giving birth is the litmus test that the woman has officially bounced back. This has been my position from the very beginning of my first pregnancy. I thought that if my pre pregnancy jeans fit again after my baby was born, then I would … Continue reading

Losing the Pregnancy Weight Part III

Burning calories is some what intangible. I really have no idea how many calories I am burning each day by breast feeding my daughter. I would like to give credit to a healthier diet and a commitment to long term exercise for my seemingly quicker come back from having my daughter. Having these habits in the beginning really do make a difference. At almost five weeks post-partum I have not actively worked at loosing the excess weight for very long. My efforts have just begun and I am determined to get closer to my pre-pre pregnancy weight (what I weighted … Continue reading

The Second Week Post-Partum Part III

My second week post-partum continued into the day after Christmas. While I anticipated having a very low key and largely uneventful day, I was feeling amazingly refreshed and was itching to go shopping. It did not even cross my mind that December Twenty-Sixth was one of the busiest shopping days of the year; I just wanted to go shopping. I picked up one of my younger sisters to accompany me and help with my son (I stilled needed to get my hands on a double stroller to keep both of my children contained and safe). The moment I saw all … Continue reading

Spending Time With My Sister Part VIII

While we were all sleeping, my family arrived early in the morning after driving through the night. I awoke a little earlier than usual so that I could make my son and I breakfast before the families came over to visit. My sister’s in-laws come over first to squeeze in some solitary baby time before my mom, sisters, and brother took over the baby holding (my dad waited patiently for “his turn” as did my sister’s father-in-law). My sister and I left the merriment for a few minutes to figure out what she would wear to the baptism with her … Continue reading
