To Nap or Not to Nap?

My son was three when he stopped taking naps. I literally thought I would die! Nap time was my only “me time” during the day. I had gotten used to running around and getting things done or taking my own little nap with him. Suddenly “me time” was gone and I had to find a way to cope with this new schedule. At first I wasn’t ready to let go of nap time. Logan kicked and screamed and fought the whole way until finally one day I gave up. He really was done with this whole nap thing, even if … Continue reading

The Elusive Nap

As I sit down to write this blog post, I’ve just finished setting up the pack n play crib next to my computer in the basement. I got my little guy to take about a 30 minute nap a little while ago, but the elusive, 2 hour nap that I’m always praying for hasn’t happened today. So, instead, he has a nice cozy place to sit and look at some toys while I try to write. Sometimes, you just have to go with it. Getting a baby to take a good nap is so hard. Especially this time around. I’ve … Continue reading

Ask a Homeschooling Blogger: How Much Time Do You Spend on Each Subject?

Question: How much time do you spend on each required subject every day? I’m having trouble scheduling my year and am wondering what other moms who have kids my children’s age, do. I’m happy to answer this question with the following disclaimer: what works for me, probably doesn’t work for someone else and vice versa. I think that one needs to consider the child in question, his age, how he learns etc. However, I will attempt to offer some thoughts and practical suggestions on scheduling that will allow you to glean something to put into your own routine. Math I … Continue reading

Baby’s First Thanksgiving

Today is Thanksgiving. I can’t help but think of Thanksgiving one year ago today. I was pregnant with my little baby and very anxious for him to come. In fact, I had made up my mind that I was going to have him over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend since he was due on December 3, and I had my other two kids almost a week early. It was perfect timing. However, it was not the right timing because my little guy decided to come 4 days late. He was born on December 7th. I remember that Thanksgiving like it was … Continue reading

Who Rules the Roost In Your House?

This morning, my husband and I woke up groggily after a night of sleep with a baby in the house. Every night is unpredictable. Every night, we never really know how much sleep, or should I say, how little sleep we are going to get. My husband and I left our sweet baby sleeping in the middle of our bed. He came up to me and told me that when he wakes up, I should go in there and stand at the foot of the bed and look at how the covers are on our little babe. He said, “It … Continue reading

Breaking Habits

Now that my little guy is four months old, I keep getting this nagging feeling that I have to break him of some habits. He likes to sleep in my bed for one. This is not ideal for me. I’m a very light sleeper. But, I do love the cuddle time. Today is the perfect example. He took a 30 minute nap in his crib, and then woke up. I let him fuss for a bit, and he would not settle back down. I went in, un-swaddled and re-swaddled and felt sleepy myself. So, I took him into my room … Continue reading

Chill Out When The Crying Won’t Stop

It seems my baby blogs have had an underlying theme lately. Crying. But, it’s a part of our lives right now with an almost 4-month-old who seems to want control. Last night and today have been stressful. I’m sick, which doesn’t help matters, and little sweet baby boy decided he didn’t want to sleep last night. So, I thought today, I would surely get in some breaks while he napped, but so far, the crying and fussiness abound, and it’s been easy to get frustrated. But, it’s important that you don’t lose your cool when you have a baby that … Continue reading

Things You Just Get Over With Another Baby

I just added baby number 3 to my bunch. It’s been a whirlwind the past 3 1/2 months as we all get used to this new bundle, and as I, the mama, get used to having three kids!! It seems like so many people to raise. And, to some it is, but to other Moms, my little trio of children probably doesn’t seem like any trouble at all. I love this picture of my three little ones. It’s perfection in my mind. It’s real motherhood. It was 10 am and we were all still in PJs and baby brother was … Continue reading

Diary of a Work At Home Mom – Part 16

Everyone understands the value of learning from mistakes. Once a mistake has been made, the best thing that you can do is to find the lesson in it and move forward, remembering not to repeat the mistake again. Today I made a mistake that made me realize that being eager to please is not always a good thing. Yesterday, I received wonderful news that I had been awarded a job that I had bid on the night before. It is just for a few hours a week, which is exactly what I needed to round out my schedule. Today, I … Continue reading
