Clothes for Our Baby Girl

Baby clothes are a major point of excitement during pregnancy. Having a few outfits in the closet make the much anticipated arrival of the baby even more real. With my first pregnancy I was thrown two baby showers; one by my coworkers and the other by my sisters. Now that we are having a girl, most of the “baby boy” clothes that I received from friends and families simply will not work for a baby girl (especially the outfits that say “Thank Heaven for Little Boys”). Several weeks ago I decided to organized the baby clothes that our son had … Continue reading

The Best Laundry Detergents for Baby Clothes

Washing your baby’s clothing separately from the laundry belonging to the rest of the family is a very good idea. Everyday soil, perfumes, body lotions, wool fibers and other additives and even clothing dyes from other clothing can get on your baby’s clothing during the washing process and can irritate young skin. Regular laundry detergents can also be an irritant. In my experience, certain brands of laundry detergent work better than others at cleaning baby clothes but remaining gentle on baby skin. Here are my picks. All Free and Clear This is the main laundry detergent I used for my … Continue reading

Taking Care of Baby Clothes 2

All of those little baby clothes can be a job in itself, and yet there isn’t a lot of advice out there about taking care of them. How to Talk to a Person with Bad B.O.

This may be a recurring nightmare among folks in management positions: a star employee has a problem with body odor… and it’s up to you to talk to them. What do you say? How do you approach the subject tactfully? It’s not an easy one. Even for the people we hold closest — family and friends — it’s not always easy to point out a flaw like body odor. I feel horrible suggesting that a friend needs a breath mint… yet I’d definitely want to know if I was the stinky one. The approach is even more delicate when you … Continue reading

The Cons of Using Pacifiers

Yesterday, I started discussing the controversial subject of using pacifiers to sooth babies. Pacifier use may seem second nature to some, but there is a lot of negative opinion as well. It is important to know all of the information, so you can make the best decision about using pacifiers. Also, know that you can decide to create your own plan for pacifier use, such as using them for the first six months, only after a few weeks, etc. If you missed yesterday’s post on the pros of using pacifiers, you can click here to check it out. Debunking the Dreft Myth (Part 2 of the Dreft Wars)

I wrote yesterday about how I went to go check out the back of the Dreft bottle at the grocery store and compare it with other brands of detergents, only to find that every single bottle said the same thing. I have written to Dreft to ask specifically why their detergent is more gentle so I will be able to once and for all lay to rest the question of my own laundry negligence as a non-Dreft user. I am now going to turn my ‘investigation’ towards other pressing Dreft questions: Is Dreft hypoallergenic? Does it rinse thoroughly out of … Continue reading
