Taking Care of Baby Clothesby Mary Ann Romans | More from this Blogger 26 Dec 2008 10:12 AM
When you first get new baby clothes, the first thing to do is to inspect them. Make sure that they are items that you wish your baby to wear. Drawstrings and decorations that could pull off may pose safety hazards. And then there are items that you just don't like for whatever reason. And for a older baby, there may be other issues such as leg snaps that tend to pop open on babies with long torsos, etc. I suggest that with new clothes, you keep the tags on them until you know for sure that you baby will wear them. If you want to return or resell the items later, having the tags makes it much easier. Babies grow fast, and you may find that your little one goes through a size before he or she can wear everything. A good rule of thumb is to pick out half of the new clothes to wear, or select a few at a time that you think would last the week, adding new outfits along the way as needed. Wash all baby clothing before you put it on your baby. Most baby clothes are laden with all sorts of chemicals, from starches to sizing to make them look good in the store. Another benefit of washing everything first is that it is an extra chance to inspect the clothes for scratchy seams, extra plastic tags that you might have missed, etc. Check back again when I talk more about laundry, as well as how to have an organized baby closet or drawer.
