Solid Foods: Making Your Own Rice Cereal

When it comes to feeding your baby solid food, rice is one of the most easily digested and very few people are allergic to it. That's why it's considered one of the best solid foods to get your infant started on.

The great thing about the following rice cereal recipe is you can make up a large batch and keep it stored for up to 2 months. All you need is:

  • A Blender
  • A Freezer & Ice Cube Tray
  • Freezer Bags
  • 3 Cups of Brown Rice
  • 12 Ounces of Formula, Breast Milk or Water

How to Make Your Own Rice Cereal

Fix the rice as the box directions indicate. Then pour the three cups of cooked rice into a blender with the 12 ounces of formula or breast milk or water. Puree it all together. Make it as smooth as possible. Then pour the puréed rice cereal into ice cube trays and freeze.

You can then pop the cubes out and store them in the freezer bags for heating up as needed in a bottle for your infant. Remember - you can't blend this rice cereal too much so if you think you overdid it - that's okay.

Have you ever made your own rice cereal?

You forgot the most important thing! ;-) It costs a little less than 3 cents per ice cube! ;-) Sorry--I'm super cheap so I had to throw that in!

That's a great point! I just never actually did the math to figure out the per cube cost! I think making it yourself is just a lot easier overall -- and certainly better than the store bought brands.

Totally true! I never thought about the cost until I was doing it for two. Oh my goodness--talk about sooooooo much easier & cheaper.
