Fall Activities with Baby

I’m not very big into Halloween. I don’t usually dress up (although my kids think I should) and I only do what is necessary to make my kids’ halloween dreams come true. The great thing, for someone like me, about having a baby at Halloween is that they are not begging for candy, or going trick or treating, and a costume is just a bonus. Not really necessary. Yet, there are many people unlike me who love Halloween. They dress their babies up in cute costumes, and take them trick or treating to show off the costumes. Maybe to get … Continue reading

Blog Find-Buy Modern Baby

I’d like to start looking for some great baby blogs for you. There are a lot of them out there! But, wouldn’t it be great to have someone else do all the work and find a blog that can help you along with a new baby? Time is precious, right? I think so. The world today is full of Mommy bloggers that are showing off their Mom skills both in how they decorate the nursery, to how they parent. I love them. Of course, being a blogger myself, I’m a little addicted to blogs. I found one the other day … Continue reading

10 Tips for Taking Portraits of Your Newborn

Newborn photography can be very challenging. It’s hard to keep a newborn calm and sleeping while you are trying to put them in a cute pose. Here are a few tips for getting that priceless newborn portrait. 1. Keep it simple and ditch the clothes. Take your newborn’s photo on a soft, simple solid colored blanket. Drape it over the couch and smooth out all the wrinkles. Your newborn does not need a special outfit since newborns look the best when they are just as nature intended them. 2. Crank the heat in your home to about 82 degrees so … Continue reading

Taking Picture-Perfect Holiday Shots of Your Baby

If you have a newborn to show off this holiday season, then featuring him on the front of your Christmas card is a no brainer. The trick is finding a way to snap the perfect shot of your pride and joy. When working with a young photo subject, keep the following tips in mind: Lighting: Proper lighting is the key to great baby pictures. Natural light is the best way to illuminate your baby. Don’t rely on your camera’s flash. When you shoot with a flash, you diminish the depth of your baby’s features. To capture your infant in the … Continue reading

Save Your Gift Bags

If you are pregnant with your first baby, you’re probably going to be given at least one baby shower by your friends or family. At least in my experience, almost everyone brings their gift in a gift bag instead of wrapping it in paper, which means you are going to go home with dozens of cute baby-themed gift bags. Don’t you dare throw them away, either… Gift bags are one of these things that can be easily reused. The most obvious way to reuse a gift bag is to use it when giving a gift to someone else. I gently … Continue reading

Organize Your Pregnancy

When I found out I was pregnant nearly two years ago, one of the first things I did was create a pregnancy organizer. It was so helpful throughout my pregnancy that I though I would share it with you. After picking out a cute binder and tabs, I divided my new organizer into four sections: Insurance, Obstetrician, Appointment Log, and Ovulation Charts. These sections are really flexible and largely depend on what information you need to keep track of for your specific pregnancy. For example, I kept quite a bit of data in my Ovulation Charts section due to the … Continue reading

DIY Baby Proofing

Our baby just turned 7 months old today, and she’s getting eager to be on the go. When we put her on her tummy, she’s kicking, reaching, and wiggling. She can’t move forwards yet, but she can scoot backwards, and turn her body in circles. Our living room furniture faces the TV. When I see what’s underneath the TV stand and think about the fact that our sweetie may soon be crawling, I shudder. Lurking under the TV stand are piles and tangles of electric cords. They include cords that plug the TV into the wall, cords that connect the … Continue reading

Mom and Baby Halloween Costumes

Yes, I’m on a Halloween kick these days. School’s in, fall is in the air, and I smell candied apples and Tootsie Rolls just around the corner. The last couple of years I’ve tried to dress my daughter and I up as a Halloween duo. I don’t know that I’ve succeeded that well. Last year’s farmer and pig pairing wasn’t too bad, though. I wanted to dig up some ideas for this year and I thought that I’d share them with you! Five Mom and Baby Halloween Costumes 1. Leaf and pea pod For cutesy goodness for a newborn, you … Continue reading

Why You Should Keep Your Toddler’s Picture in Your Wallet

According to a new study, it’s not so that you can show off your tot’s adorably chubby cheeks to family and friends, or to have in case she gets lost at the grocery store and you need a photo to provide to police. Rather, researchers found that if you lose your wallet you have a better chance of getting it back if you have pictures of your young children in it. Recently, a team of scientists dropped 240 wallets in the streets of Scotland, with an even number of the following photos clearly visible: a smiling toddler, a cute puppy, … Continue reading

Get Your Wiggle on at Six Flags

My preschool daughter has never been a huge Wiggles fan. What’s more, she screams like a banchee every time I try to put her on an amusement park ride. And I’m not talking about those baby roller coasters that travel on a flat track, or those crazy toddler swings that spin around with modified reckless abandon. For the past three years my child has unleashed glass shattering, ear splitting, high-pitched shrieks each time I’ve tried to place her on merry-go-round horses (the paralyzed ones that don’t move up and down), baby boats (that barely move in a pool no bigger … Continue reading
