Recent Recalls on Baby Items

Approximately 45,000 pacifiers have been recalled due to choking fears. Antonio Flores recalled its Karino pacifiers due to concerns that they didn’t meet federal safety standards. There are several problems with these pacifiers: the mouth guard isn’t large enough, it doesn’t have any ventilation holes, the handle is too long, and the nipple can easily separate from the base. All these problems can lead to the pacifiers being a choking hazard. Although no injuries have been reported, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) wanted these items recalled before there was an incident. The 25 cent pacifiers were made in Mexico … Continue reading

Baby Blog Month in Review: August 2008

Isn’t it crazy the way babies grow so quickly? It seems that you just get used to one stage and boom they are already into another. Tonight, were busy getting the household all set for my eldest child’s first day of second grade. My two younger ones are excited and want to start school, too. It will be a busy month. Don’t worry about the missing last week of blogs. I’ve gotten quite a few questions about where I have been. The Baby Blog tends to go on hiatus the last week of the month. A Lesson in Product Safety Recalls

Graco, a popular baby brand that sells “big ticket” items like strollers and cribs, recently recalled 100,000 high chairs. On reading this story, I got curious as to how one finds out that something you’ve bought has been recalled. I know there are lists that you can look at. Perhaps someone with an overly developed … Continue reading

Beetles Everywhere!

Always shake out your clothes after hanging them on the line. If you don’t, a Japanese beetle might find his way into your toddler’s onesie. He might die in the hamper, still in the onesie. You might put the onesie on your toddler, not knowing about the beetle hiding inside. The beetle might fall down into your toddler’s diaper. You might find the beetle in your toddler’s diaper after a nap. You might feel a sinking sense of dread as you wonder if the beetle hurt your little one. You might search his skin for bites and breathe a sigh … Continue reading

Safety of Slings

If you’re a parent who keeps up with baby product news, you no doubt have seen phrases similar to the following in recent headlines: “Sling recall.” “Slings blamed for infant deaths.” “Are any baby slings safe?” Due to the recent recall of two sling models manufactured by a well-known baby product company, many parents are questioning the safety of their baby carriers. Parents who formerly were convinced of the benefits of baby wearing are now wondering if the benefits are worth the risks. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, 13 infant deaths have been associated with sling-style carriers over … Continue reading

Home Week in Review: July 14 – 20

Another week has gone by and here is our review: Ironing: The Chore we love to hate I guess I don’t really hate it (although my recent bought with ironing did inspire the title) but let’s just say, it’s not my favorite thing to do. In my case, it may be that I’m just not that great at doing it. I tend to burn myself and my clothes and those stubborn wrinkles seem to get the best of me. Wash and wear works for me. However, there are some products and some tips that will help make ironing a little … Continue reading
