Finally Crawling!

My little guy is almost 11 months old, and he just learned how to crawl this week. I actually didn’t think he would do it at all. He had become so efficient at his little army crawl that people frequently commented on how fast he was! Since we have all hardwood floors, scooting on his belly was a very efficient way to get around. He mastered the art by pushing off with one foot, while pulling himself in true army crawling fashion with one of his arms. I always looked at him though as he did this and thought about … Continue reading

Help from a Support Group

It has been nearly eight weeks since I have seen or hugged my oldest son. Next week our family will be traveling to Texas to see him finally graduate from basic training with the Air Force. One of the reasons I have been able to get through these eight weeks is because of the support I have received. In fact, it’s another reason I am so glad that Facebook exists. Just before my son left for basic training, I looked online for a support group. I was led to an Air Force Moms Support group on Facebook. This group consists … Continue reading

Cleaning Out the Car

You know that things are bad in your car when a ten-year-old complains that it is gross. We have had a couple of strange weeks, so my normal policy of having everyone grab at least three things that don’t belong each time they leave the car just wasn’t working. I hit the last straw yesterday when two things occurred: my daughter pulled out an old and yellowed cheese stick from behind a seat, and the carpooling kids didn’t want to put on their seat belts because they were afraid of all of the crumbs. “They are huge crumbs. It isn’t … Continue reading

Treating Your Pup’s Mosquito Bites

We have a mosquito infestation in our yard. It’s not nearly as bad as it was last year; our dry spring gave the pests less places to breed. Still, once the season’s started I can barely enjoy my yard, even on cool days, because sitting still out on the porch leads to multiple bites in minutes. I’m not the only one susceptible to mosquito bites; my dog gets them too. I think she got a bite sometime last week, because she’s been particularly itchy at one spot on her side. She chews it and scratches it all of the time, … Continue reading

The Insurer Wants Roof Repairs

It all started with a puddle on the floor. My husband and I made a claim with our homeowners insurance company. We have gone through the entire process from filing the claim to having inspectors come over to look at the damage. I thought we were done, but, we just got another letter from the insurance company. We got a very confusing letter from our homeowners insurance company. The letter arrived to us by mail on May 25, 2012. This was the Friday before Memorial Day weekend. Our post office doesn’t drop mail off to us until after 4:00 in … Continue reading

Taking Pets to Nursing Homes

Life as a blogger can be lonely. I spend a lot of time alone in my house. Sure, I have three pets, but when I start carrying on actual half-conversations with my dog or my cats, then I know perhaps it’s time to get out a bit more. That’s why I started volunteering so much in my area. I visit various organizations multiple times a week, the local rescue included, to get out and interact with people. The very first group with which I looked into volunteering when I first moved to my area three years ago was Pets on … Continue reading

Waiting On a Status Update

Last week, I went to see an insurance broker, in the hopes that she could find me an affordable health insurance policy. To my pleasant surprise, she was able to not only find one, but to help me to apply for it as well. Since then, I have been waiting for a status update from the insurance company. The wait feels long. This blog is one of the many I have written about my continued quest to find affordable health insurance. So far, all of my attempts to do this by myself ended in failure. That is what inspired me … Continue reading

I Need My Sundays

You really don’t realize how important it is to attend church every Sunday until you have to miss one or two or even more than that. I recently had my third child, and despite my church responsibilities, I took a few weeks off from church before returning. The thing about missing church is that you don’t really realize the difference attending every week makes in your life until you go back. This is one reason why I feel that it really is easy to go inactive and stay that way. You don’t think church makes a difference in your life … Continue reading

Saving Money With Coupons

Do you coupon? When I was first married I was a diehard couponer, I didn’t buy anything I didn’t have a coupon for, I paid full price for nothing, my ex husband often joked about my obsessive couponing. As life got busier my couponing fell to the wayside, as a single mother even though saving money would have been nice I just never seemed to have the time. I never use coupons now. I guess the older I got the less processed, packaged food I used so coupons no longer seemed that important. Enter a new economy and a renewed … Continue reading
