Six Months Post Partum

One year ago I was only fourteen weeks pregnant with my daughter (although I did not know I was pregnant with a girl). I was still wearing all of my pre pregnancy clothes and still in throngs of morning sickness. In a lot of ways I am in the same clothes wearing place now at six months post partum as I was a year ago. At six months post partum, I feel completely back to my pre pregnancy state. All of my clothes fit almost the same as they did before. A few more stretch marks make my clothes fit … Continue reading

Five Months Post Partum

Today marks exactly five months since the birth of my second child. I am amazed at how quickly those five months have gone and how quickly my newborn daughter turned into a laughing, squirming, and very interactive baby. Gone are the days of healing and chilling. Life has returned to normal swiftly and without warning. It is rather difficult at this point in the post partum stage to recognize how my journey has progressed. All the signs of my pregnancy are pretty much gone aside from a few stretch marks and a few extra pounds that still remain. My clothes … Continue reading

Post Partum Jeans

For some reason, subconscious or otherwise, I have an obsession with jeans. This obsession was brought on from having babies. While I have written before about pre pregnancy jeans, I feel that post partum jeans deserve some attention. I think most women can agree that finding a pair of jeans that fit well and make us feel slim is fairly important (to us anyway). Finding the perfect pair of jeans is no easy task. The larger difficulty is finding the perfect pair of jeans after having a baby. After wearing maternity jeans for months, getting into a normal “feel good” pair … Continue reading

Nine Weeks Post Partum

It has been nine weeks since I birthed my daughter at home into a pool of water with the assistance of my amazing nurse midwife. After my daughter’s birth, I wondered how quickly my body would heal. Now that I have had nine weeks to heal and reflect, I can say that with confidence that I healed much more quickly with my second pregnancy than with my first. At nine weeks my body seems to be entirely healed aside from the extra pounds that I still need to shed. My post partum efforts continue to focus on loosing the weight … Continue reading

The Seventh and Eighth Weeks Post Partum

Seven weeks out from my daughter’s birth, I seemed to have hit a bit of a rut. While I am still feeling great, my sweets intake has increased due to recent celebrations and my motivation to exercise seems to be dwindling a little bit too. My diet started veered off course when I put together a party for my daughter’s baptism. I made the famous red velvet cupcakes. They were both tasty and calorie heavy especially with the cream cheese frosting. After that I made my thanksgiving pumpkin pie and pumpkin bread, using the sweet pumpkins I had processed and … Continue reading

The Sixth Week Post Partum

Reaching the sixth week post partum milestone is kind of monumental. Once this stage is reached, it seems that a new chapter of life begins. Transitions are numerous during this week and I found myself almost amazed of how many things changed during my sixth week post partum. At six weeks post partum I transitioned back into many of my pre-pregnancy clothes marking the beginning of a much anticipated physical change as my body really starts to work its way back to “normal.” Although the journey has just begun (my body still has a long way to go), I am … Continue reading

The Fifth Week Post-Partum

I can hardly believe that it has already been five weeks since my daughter was born. The anticipation built for nine long months and now that she is finally here, time is flying even more than it was before she was born. Many things have changed in these five short weeks. Our daughter, while still quite small, has grown considerably. Her thighs are starting to fatten up and her precious little face is also filling out. She has grown in length by at least two inches (probably more) her hands seem bigger too although they do not seem pudgy yet. … Continue reading

The Pre Pregnancy Jeans

There is a lot of anticipation for post partum women to get back into their pre pregnancy jeans. It seems to be an ever present goal one that marks the successful manipulation of the post pregnant body back to what is considered normal. To an even greater extent, a woman’s pre pregnancy jeans fitting again after giving birth is the litmus test that the woman has officially bounced back. This has been my position from the very beginning of my first pregnancy. I thought that if my pre pregnancy jeans fit again after my baby was born, then I would … Continue reading

Placenta Encapsulation

I first heard about placenta encapsulation during the second trimester of my second pregnancy. One of my close friends had just had her third baby and she decided to have her placenta encapsulated for the first time. My friend testified to the immense health and recovery benefits received. My initial reaction was part disgust and part inquisitiveness. Consuming one’s placenta seemed a bit strange but it has numerous benefits to the post-partum mother. I began my own research on the subject and soon discovered for myself the healthful benefits behind placentophagy. My research told me that the placenta provides a … Continue reading

The Baby Blues: When It Won’t Go Away

Postpartum depression (PPD) affects roughly one in six women and can develop at any time in the first year after a baby is born and may persist for months if left untreated. The more common “baby blues” effects almost 80% of women and makes an appearance between day three and day ten of giving birth. The baby blues are caused by rapidly changing hormone levels in the mother, predominantly progesterone. Typical symptoms are weepiness, a sense of inexplicable sadness and a feeling of being overwhelmed by even the most trivial incident. By the end of a fortnight however, these symptoms … Continue reading
