Baby Naming Lists Are Fun

One thing that is fun to think about when you are pregnant is what you will name your baby. The possibilities are as endless as your imagination, and until your baby arrives there will always be the question of whether the name that you have spent hours agonizing over will be a good fit for him or her. There are many baby name lists out there that list popular names, unusual names, celebrity baby names, and so on. Lists are fun to look at and they can provide inspiration too. Recently, I came across a list of the top baby … Continue reading

Baby Naming Traditions

Sometimes, it is fun to think about how our ancestors may have felt about doing certain things that we ourselves are doing now. One thing that has been on my mind quite a bit lately is naming our second son, who is due in April. My husband and I had such an easy time naming our first son. He suggested a name. I decided that it was not only a great name, but a great fit with my father’s first name as the middle name. The thing that sealed the deal was that we both thought that it sounded great … Continue reading

Naming Your Baby

You may not think of genealogy as something that is affected by trends. However, there are some trends that your descendants will be talking about long after the trends have come and gone. Why? Because trends for baby naming become part of the information that is recorded as part of your family’s history. Naming a baby is no small task. Each set of parents must decide what kinds of things are important to them when selecting their children’s names. For example, is there a favorite relative whom you would like to honor by choosing their name as a child’s first … Continue reading

Naming My Babies

For me, one of the most difficult parts of becoming a mother, whether the first time, or subsequent times is the naming part. Does anyone else have this problem? I come with a very long last name. It is a mouthful, frankly. I married into it. So, I wanted to make sure my kids’ names sounded good with our last name. But, naming is so much more than that isn’t? It seems that some couples have no problem knowing what they are going to name their child. They name them while they are in the womb and refer to that … Continue reading

What’s In A Name? Nature Names for Babies

I adore baby names. I love the sound of them, I love putting them together into groups of two, three, and four. When I was pregnant with my daughter, I obsessed about the meanings of names. I love hiking in our local forests and beside rivers, and I wanted to name her something that would reflect that love. A name with water in it? A name that meant forest, perhaps? We ended up with a name for our daughter that was both inspired by nature and was fairly subtle about its origins. The subtle part is from my husband. I … Continue reading

Baby Blog Month in Review: July 2008

Two of my three children are summer babies. That is, they were born in the summer and had their first months surrounded by sunshine streaming in the windows, the sound of birds chirping, and days spent wearing nothing but a diaper and a “onsie.” I made sure that they had Fourth of July outfits ready, even though one of them arrived a week after the holiday. I guess he just wasn’t interested in the parade. Do you have a summer baby, too? We had a lot of new information to share this past month, such as recall notices and new … Continue reading

With babies, there is always something new every day. My little one turned two-years-old today. Because of all of the changes, it is important to keep up with the latest news. July 7th Baby Blog Week in Review: June 30th Through July 6th Summer time is so much … Continue reading
