Naming Your Baby: Is Popularity a Bad Thing?

Did you know Jacob has been the number one boy’s name in the US since 1999? Ironically this is one of the names my husband and I have chosen as a possibility if we have another boy. Whenever I hear a story like this one I always think of the episode of Friends where Pheobe discovers that the laws in the United States allow for one to legally change one’s name to virtually anything. So Phoebe decides that she is going to rename herself Princess Consuela Bananahammock. Because hey–why not? What’s In a Nickname?

I always wanted a nickname, but was never blessed with one. A few years ago, I decided it certainly was not too late and I could still get myself a nickname if I just worked hard enough at it.
