Yoga and My Daughter

A couple of months ago I added yoga to my weekly workout routine in an effort to ease the strain from my typical high intensity cardio workouts and to help my husband strengthen his core since he refused to do anything but yoga.  Aside from the obvious struggles of exercise i.e. motivation, commitment, follow through, balance, endurance etc., there is the added difficulty of exercising with young children who basically demand mommy’s attention twenty four seven.  My three year old son has gotten really good about playing and getting a snack or drink of water for himself while I exercise … Continue reading

Shoes for My Daughter Part V

Now that I had finally found some shoes that might be acceptable, my daughter still needed to try them on and get her feet sized by the certified fit specialist  When my daughter was getting her feet sized, the first thing the saleswoman/certified fit specialist said to me was that my daughter had wide feet.  I was shocked because her feet always seemed long and narrow to me … but who was I to argue with the certified fit specialist.  I has sized my daughter’s feet at a four and a half but tended to go with a five to … Continue reading

Shoes for My Daughter Part I

Since my daughter’s birth, a little over a year ago, I have been buying her shoes.  I never really worried about shoes for my son when he was an infant, but for some reason I felt that my daughter ought to have shoes to go with her cute little outfits, especially her dresses. The first I dress I bought for my daughter after she was born was her Christmas dress.  I bought it only a couple days before Christmas in utter desperation because that outfit that I had bought for this very special occasion was too big.   As luck would … Continue reading

Ten Months Old Part I

It is official! My daughter has lived longer outside of the womb now than inside. In that time she has gained ten pounds and grown more than eight inches in height. She is very comfortable in her autumn and winter inspired wardrobe and finds that her six to twelve month clothes fit the best even though I cannot help buying her clothes a size bigger! In ten months she was only accomplished growing a very small amount of blond hair on top of her head (her brother had more hair at birth than she has now). Now that she is … Continue reading

Nine Months Old Part II

Along with my daughter’s increased appetite and flourishing palate, she has, of course, correlating growth. Throughout the course of the summer I have watched my daughter’s clothes slowly become shorter and tighter. While my daughter can easily fit into nine month clothes (with extra space in fact), several of her three to six month outfits still fit. However, we are transitioning into fall and even if most of her summer clothes fit, they are not appropriate for cold weather (which we have had a lot of). Still, I have been able to salvage several pairs of pants (leggings really) and … Continue reading

Uh Oh! Mom Cut My Hair!

My babies have always had fine, wispy hair. My daughter was practically bald until she was about 2. I longed for ponytails and braids, but instead, what we had was a sad looking mullet growing. It was not pretty. Finally, after a lot of grief from my sisters (one of whom is a hairstylist) I was talked into cutting off that cute little mullet. I didn’t regret it. And, it looked a lot better, even though she had less hair. My third is now 10 months old, and has more hair than any of my other kids have had at … Continue reading

No More Gummy Smile?

I think my babe is teething. But, it seems a little early. However, I know that teething can sometimes take a few months, and usually, they are miserable months indeed. I have to admit that I love the gummy smile. It is one of my favorite parts of the baby stages. Smiles with no teeth are the best. My daughter didn’t have any visible teeth until she was 10 months old, and my other son didn’t have any until around the same time as well. But, the signs are all there. He is fussy for no reason, drooling, hitting his … Continue reading

Eight Months Old

As I look at my eight month old daughter, I wonder where on earth the time has gone. One year ago I was only twenty three weeks pregnant! As I imagined what my daughter would be like a year ago,I now have had the pleasure of watching her grow and discover the world around her for eight months. While I am shocked that she is already eight months old, I am also surprised that she has learned so much in just eight months! At eight months old my daughter is happily devouring many different kinds of food. From egg yolks … Continue reading

Daughters

When my sister told me that she and her husband were having a girl, I was happy and excited for them but a little bit jealous at the same time. I had just found out that I was pregnant with my second child when she told me (I was fifteen weeks behind my sister). I was really hoping and wishing that my husband and I were also having a girl. While every fiber of my being wanted to have a girl, I tried not to get too set on the idea because we had just as much chance of having … Continue reading

My Sister

My sister and I have always been really close. She is a mere eighteen months younger than me. We have done many things together as children, through high school, and through college. Both of were married right after our graduation from college and both of our husbands pursued graduate degrees that took us to different states putting us more than one thousand miles apart for the first time in our lives. Life continued as it does but we were only able to see each other once or twice a year. During our time apart, after I had my first baby, … Continue reading
