Yoga and My Daughter

A couple of months ago I added yoga to my weekly workout routine in an effort to ease the strain from my typical high intensity cardio workouts and to help my husband strengthen his core since he refused to do anything but yoga.  Aside from the obvious struggles of exercise i.e. motivation, commitment, follow through, balance, endurance etc., there is the added difficulty of exercising with young children who basically demand mommy’s attention twenty four seven.  My three year old son has gotten really good about playing and getting a snack or drink of water for himself while I exercise … Continue reading

Ten Months Old Part II

In my daughter’s short ten months she has become accustomed to her brother’s antics. For the most part she gets along really well with her brother and loves to watch him dance and play guitar (she actually finds it hilarious and goes into giggling fits). She has also developed her own love of music and she even has her own dance moves to songs that she recognizes and likes. While she genuinely enjoys all different kinds of music, she is a particular fan of playing children’s songs on the guitar with her daddy. Her favorite song is called “Yellow Bus.” … Continue reading

Rejuvenating My Post Partum Workout

After the birth of my daughter, I was super excited and ready to get back to my workout routine. I had mentally prepared for the day that I would finally be able to exercise again. I felt like I needed to get started as soon as possible and when my midwife told me that I would most likely be able to resume my workouts at four weeks post partum, I was determined to get started as soon as possible. With lots of anticipation, I started my post partum exercise at exactly four weeks. My motivation level was extremely high because … Continue reading

Six Months Post Partum

One year ago I was only fourteen weeks pregnant with my daughter (although I did not know I was pregnant with a girl). I was still wearing all of my pre pregnancy clothes and still in throngs of morning sickness. In a lot of ways I am in the same clothes wearing place now at six months post partum as I was a year ago. At six months post partum, I feel completely back to my pre pregnancy state. All of my clothes fit almost the same as they did before. A few more stretch marks make my clothes fit … Continue reading

My Sister

My sister and I have always been really close. She is a mere eighteen months younger than me. We have done many things together as children, through high school, and through college. Both of were married right after our graduation from college and both of our husbands pursued graduate degrees that took us to different states putting us more than one thousand miles apart for the first time in our lives. Life continued as it does but we were only able to see each other once or twice a year. During our time apart, after I had my first baby, … Continue reading

My Five Month Old Daughter Part II

At five months my baby girl reacts to various stimuli in her environment with an assortment of facial expressions. Almost anyone can illicit a smiling expression by making a funny face or a interesting sound. She also expresses curiosity, confusion, concern, fear, contentment, joy boredom, excitement, and tiredness. In five months she has learned to use body language quite effectively. If she is tired of her position whether she is sitting in her bumbo, playing on the floor, or sitting reclined in her sleep and play rocker, she has several signals that she is ready for something new. She might … Continue reading

My Five Month Old Daughter

Yesterday was my daughter’s five month birthday. I spent the day in awe of how much my daughter has grown and of how much she has changed in five short months. Five months prior I spent three and a half hours in hard labor (after fifteen hours of milder contractions) and finally, after nine long months of pregnancy and eighteen and a half hours of labor, I said hello to my baby girl face to face. In these last five months we have spent lots and lots and lots and lots of time face to face. She recognizes my voice … Continue reading

Five Months Post Partum

Today marks exactly five months since the birth of my second child. I am amazed at how quickly those five months have gone and how quickly my newborn daughter turned into a laughing, squirming, and very interactive baby. Gone are the days of healing and chilling. Life has returned to normal swiftly and without warning. It is rather difficult at this point in the post partum stage to recognize how my journey has progressed. All the signs of my pregnancy are pretty much gone aside from a few stretch marks and a few extra pounds that still remain. My clothes … Continue reading

Our Daughter’s Baptism Part II

Preparations continued the next day for the celebration of our daughter’s upcoming baptism in the evening. I woke earlier than normal in anticipation for all that needed to take place. I wanted to start the day on a positive note and for me that meant with a quick breakfast, a gruelling workout, and a much needed shower. Once these three things were successfully completed, I was able to move on to the real preparations of the day. The first task was to make the dessert, which for me is the most important element of any celebration! I had decided to … Continue reading

How Old Is Too Old For Kindergarten?

My five-year-old is the youngest kid in her kindergarten class. The rest of the kids are six (or will be by the end of the month), and if I read the birthday list correctly, one of her classmates will be seven in May. A seven-year-old in kindergarten? Am I the only parent who thinks it strange that a seven-year-old is playing with paint and glue with a bunch of kids he towers over? Never mind how I feel about the situation. I wonder how he feels about being called “the giant” and “Big Buddy?” According to most schools in the … Continue reading
