Looking for Halloween Costumes for You and Baby?

Yes, I'm on a Halloween kick these days. School's in, fall is in the air, and I smell candied apples and Tootsie Rolls just around the corner.

The last couple of years I've tried to dress my daughter and I up as a Halloween duo. I don't know that I've succeeded that well. Last year's farmer and pig pairing wasn't too bad, though. I wanted to dig up some ideas for this year and I thought that I'd share them with you!

Five Mom and Baby Halloween Costumes

1. Leaf and pea pod

For cutesy goodness for a newborn, you just need to dress in green. Get a hat and stick a large felt leaf on top of it. Find an old sling or borrow one that someone no longer needs. Dye it green using lime Kool-Aid in boiling water. Add three circles of green felt to baby's outfit, and voila: mama is the vine, baby is the pea in the pod.

2. Mom and baby gorilla

This one goes well with a baby in a front pack facing outwards. Get a curly wig, face makeup, and gorilla gloves. Turn yourself into a gorilla. Place a hat on baby that covers his ears and turn him into the baby gorilla. Socks on hands work well as paws and can be easily decorated.

3. Flowers in the garden

This is another costume that works well for a baby in a front pack. Go to town on any fancy leaf and foliage shirts that you might have. Get a hat for each of you and attach stiff foam or thick felt petals to the hats. Voila! Two flowers in the garden!

4. Farm animal and farmer

Yes, this requires a straw hat or two. This one is good for the baby who is crawling, since crawling shows off a cute animal tail! Last year my daughter was a pig: take a pink footed onesie and adorn it with paw prints and the word "oink". Add thick felt ears to a hat, and add a curly tail to the back of the onesie!

5. Monster with two heads

For those who want to be SCARY this Halloween, how about a two-headed monster? A Purple People Eater would work well. Dress in purple with a few play "people" in a frying pan hanging from your front. Add scary purple wig and antennae and a single eye on your forehead. Add baby on the front or back, also dressed in purple. The scary monster is complete!

What are you going to be for Halloween this year?
