Wrestling A Baby To Sleep

Last night, I certainly felt like I was in a wrestling match. Since we are currently co-sleeping (and not entirely by our choice, but more so our baby’s) it is always a little tricky with three people in the bed. But, this morning, I woke up feeling like I had literally been wrestling all night. That is not a good feeling! My five-month-old is as precious as it gets. He smiles all day long, even when sick, and has a great temperament these days, unlike those early ones. But, the nights are long. They are a battle. They are tough … Continue reading

Swaddle Your Baby

For me, a swaddling blanket was a lifesaver with my first child. My brother and his wife gave us the Miracle Blanket when we had our first child, and it did work like a miracle!! I would recommend that baby product to anyone. I tried swaddling with just your run of the mill receiving blanket, and never really got the hang of it. The Miracle Blanket, and other blankets like it worked perfectly to take all the guess work out of swaddling. Sometimes, I worried that I was swaddling her too tight, but my doctor told me that there was … Continue reading

Taking Picture-Perfect Holiday Shots of Your Baby

A Second Baby Shower?

A baby shower may be one of the most exciting and fun milestones in your first pregnancy. Nothing makes you feel more prepared to welcome the baby kicking your ribs then piles of adorable clothes, toys, gear and diapers. It’s generally accepted that you only get to have a baby shower for your first baby. Subsequent pregnancies? Tough luck. But are there exceptions to this “rule?” A few scenarios where a second shower may be acceptable come to mind: 1. It’s been five years or more since you had a baby and you have already gotten rid of your baby … Continue reading

Caring For Yourself When You Have a New Baby

I was notoriously unprepared for our daughter’s arrival. Now, I am normally extremely organized. I have a calendar that looks like a small army of ants ran across it and spread little annotated footprints everywhere. However, before my daughter was born, we did the usual: bought a new house, moved into my parents’ place, renovated our new home extensively, and got a chronic illness. Ok, perhaps the chronic illness part is unusual, but the rest seems to be part of the chaos of nesting. So do what I wish I’d done, not what I did. Let me be the bad … Continue reading

Baby Skin Problems

This morning, as I was caressing the cheek of my youngest child, I was in awe at how soft it was. The expression soft as a baby’s bottom is said for a reason. Baby skin is amazingly smooth and glowing. But that doesn’t mean that baby skin isn’t prone to problems. Here is a quick guide to common baby skin problems. Diaper Rash Diaper rash is caused when irritants and wetness come in contact with your baby’s skin.
