Holiday Baby Namesby Mary Ann Romans | More from this Blogger 09 Nov 2008 05:50 PM
I remember the first time I realized that someone's name could be associated with a holiday. It was a girl I met when I was just a girl myself. Her name was Noel, and I thought it was just a beautiful name. While we traded "click clacks," turned our noses up at "Garbage Pail Kids," and jumped rope together, I always envied her the name, "Noel." It made me think of Christmas and sparkle and snow. My name on the other hand (which I have grown to appreciate of course) reminded me of Catholic saints and Gilligan's Island. My daughter was born not to far from the holiday of Thanksgiving, and I jokingly threatened to name her Butterball (for the Turkey). I didn't realize how many baby names are actually associated with the holidays. Had I did, I wonder if we would have named her differently. Here are some names that I have gathered that are inspired or associated with the holidays. I've included an explanation if the associate seems obscure.
