Mommy Burn Out

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I’m a relative energizer bunny. I rarely slow down and even when I’m sick, I’m still going. I hate to be idle. . .the worst weekend or vacation in the world for me, would consist of sitting around just “being”. Even in the early days of my twins, I swore I was getting nothing done and while my house might not have been a vision of pristine, those around me kind of watched dumb founded as I homeschooled, had dinner done, and kept sanity and peace among five children under the age … Continue reading

Gift Giving for Twins at Christmas

I realize that most of my readers don’t have twins or multiples. But since I do, I feel compelled every once in awhile to write something specifically geared towards those families! Christmas time, at least for us, has presented a unique set of challenges for the twins. Our girls’ were six months old for their first Christmas–hardly at an age where gift giving really mattered. If people had given the wrapped empty boxes they would’ve been equally happy. In fact, based on my experience with five children, I would venture to say that if your child is younger than about … Continue reading

Ask a Baby Blogger: Just How Do You Do It?

The question reads: I don’t know how you survive as a homeschooling mom with 5 children under the age of 7! How do you ever get out? How do you give everyone enough attention? How can you keep your house clean or attend to your husband? I only have one and am completely overwhelmed. Seriously—just how do you do it? I chuckle as I read this question because I promise you that if you saw my house with books stacked high in places that are NOT the bookshelf—that would answer at least part of your question. I almost didn’t respond … Continue reading

How Twins Form Their Own Identity

If you’re looking for a scientific explanation for how twins form their own identities, I don’t have one for you. This is only my own thoughts as my twins grow up and become more and more distinctive every day. This blog was prompted by the comment of a very sweet but elderly lady who noted that the girls were dressed too much alike. “Sure they look cute. But they’ll never form their own identities that way,” she admonished. Their Own Identity I used to assert with authority that I wanted my twins to form their own identities. It sounds good. … Continue reading

Twins: To Dress Alike or Not

One of the first decisions I made when I found out I was pregnant with twins was that I was never going to dress my girls alike. It was important to me for them to establish their own identities, and I believed dressing them differently would help to begin the process. Than came the baby shower. Every gift I received contained two matching items from blankets and sleepers to hats and dresses. They were all adorable. I caved a little. I thought that I could use the outfits on the babies on separate days, but then thought it would be … Continue reading

‘Lotsa’ Helping and ‘Outsourcing’ with the New Baby

Are you wondering how you’ll get everything done with a new baby around the house? Are you constantly finding yourself falling behind on housework, or personal time, or anything else? This past weekend I found out about two very interesting services that let you ‘outsource’ your parenting duties. Lotsa Helping Hands This site is not specifically dedicated to mothers. I found out about it from a fellow MOM (mother of multiples) whose triplets were in the NICU for almost two months. However, it would really make a unique “present” for either a MOM or a mother who may be expecting … Continue reading

10,000 Steps and Counting: My Fitness Book Is Not Interactive Enough. . .

I want to note here that the idea to average your steps, increase your daily average by 2,000 and then increase by 500 thereafter was not my original idea. Have you read the book The Step Diet? It is a great book explaining the power of walking to help lose weight. But again, weight loss is only a side effect of my real goal: to get back into shape. However, I now have a problem with my wonderful book. It’s not interactive enough. I have been religiously wearing my pedometer for awhile now. I have been very good about increasing … Continue reading

10,000 Steps and Counting: My New Best Friend the Pedometer

Recently Heather Long has bombarded me with a slew of articles telling me to get back into shape after the birth of my twins. Well, okay, she probably wasn’t writing just for me. But oh, how I needed to be inspired. So I bought a pedometer to start tracking my steps. I am now four weeks into my journey with my pedometer and I love her. I may name her. Since her arrival in my life, I have lost weight, but more importantly–I feel better. Are you looking for some type of fitness to do but aren’t sure what? Buy … Continue reading

Help!!! My Twins Are Walking

Those of you who have followed my blogs likely know a few things about me: I homeschool, I am an ardent advocate for breastfeeding, and I have twinfants. Twins are, as I’ve said before, exponentially harder than having one at a time. And in our house, it has just gotten even harder. We have jumped the gap between twinfanthood and now we’re into twoddlerhood! It all started when our cute, cuddly, didn’t-roll-anywhere babies started to get the idea that they could see better if they rolled over. This was fine. . .until they figured out that they could roll off. … Continue reading

A Shopping Guide for Twins (or more) Part 2: Traveling

Traveling with twins is a tricky proposition. It is hard to lug around enough of everything for two babies. However, getting out with your twins will help you feel like a normal person again. Outings can also help calm fussy babies. Here is a list of things to think about when it comes to traveling with two in tow. Carriers When it comes to wearing two babies, I don’t recommend purchasing most carriers that are sold in stores. Many multiples are born premature and carrying is one of the best things you can do for your babies. However, most carriers … Continue reading
