Friday Baby Laughs - Poop in the Tub

by Catherine Ipcizade | More from this Blogger

Okay, so maybe this one's a little funnier to read about than to experience on your own. But if you're a parent then you likely will experience it. Be prepared. Be ready. Be brave.

Has this happened to you? You're giving your baby or toddler a bath. Everything is going well. They're splish-splashing around. You've washed their hair, lathered up their little bodies with your favorite baby soap, and rinsed them off, when all of the sudden you look down and notice something brown and round sitting at the bottom of the tub. You go to reach for it, then stop, look quizzically down, and finally stare wide-eyed and open mouthed at a piece of poop in the tub. "Nooooooooo," you say to yourself. "It can't be." But it can and it is. And usually, it's not the only one. Before you can blink, you've got an entire gumball machine full of brown grossness staring you in the face.

This has happened to me three times this month. It happened to me with my first child too, and I know I'm not alone. Most parents will face this horribly gross dilemma at least once before their babies are out of diapers.

So what do you do when this happens? If you're like me, you let out a loud holler first in sheer surprise then grab your baby out of the tub as quickly as possible while you give your husband the task of "cleaning up." Hahahahahah - okay, maybe not all the time. The truth is, it's a messy mess, a gross mess, and a job we won't likely be discussing with our neighbors.

Poop in the tub is awful, and once it happens the first time, you'll likely be much more intuitive to your child's face before placing them in the bath. In my case, one squished up look of concentration, or one inkling that her normally white skin is turning red, and she's outta there! Better safe than sorry, I say.

When you face this "problem" be sure to write it down in your child's baby book. And when it happens to them one day with their own babies, you can show them how very, very well you can relate.

Happy Bathing!
