The Baby Shower Part II

Things were definitely coming together for the baby shower and we only had a few more things to do before the guests began to arrive. Soon enough our oldest sister arrived with the punch bowl. Since it was fifteen minutes before the shower was to begin, I instructed one of my younger sisters on how to make the punch. The end result is a delightful pink colored beverage and many guests comment on how good it tastes! Everything is ready and the guests begin to arrive. My very pregnant sister is in place near the door to greet and chat … Continue reading

Planning a Baby Shower Part V

Today is the day of the baby shower for my thirty three weeks pregnant sister. The preparations for this baby shower have been ongoing for the past several months. Things really were put into high gear about three weeks ago with the writing and sending of the baby shower invitations. The planning continued yesterday as I made six dozen cupcakes, got together all my supplies for the baby shower games and items needed for preparing and frosting the six dozen cupcakes, I picked up the flowers for both the door prizes and cupcake decoration, and many other miscellaneous items (like … Continue reading

Planning a Baby Shower III

While I have attended more than a handful of baby showers, I have never planned one myself. I am discovering that I am going to need help getting everything done and organized. My sister’s mother-in-law has offered her house for the actual event to take place and she is also making an hors d’oeuvre. Now I am calling upon my mother and sisters to help me not only to prepare the food that day before and the day of the shower, but also to provide some of the food items. For the food I am thinking a cheese platter, a … Continue reading

Planning a Baby Shower II

I am in the midst of planning a baby shower for my younger sister. Perhaps this is an odd thing to write about for a “pregnancy blog” but since I am also pregnant, I have found that pregnancy also affects one’s ability to plan a baby shower. My sister and I were always close growing up especially in junior high and high school and we remained close through college, but for the past five years we have lived more than just miles apart. Now that my husband and I have finally moved back to our home town, my sister and … Continue reading

Planning a Baby Shower

I am in the midst of planning a baby shower for my younger sister (she’s only eighteen months younger); she is fifteen weeks further along than I am. The planning began before I was pregnant, but it was more of collecting ideas phase. As I entered my first trimester and with the onset of morning sickness, the planning halted. I tried having a few conversations with my sister about my ideas but it was just too stressful anticipating all the work it would be. Now that I am finally emerging from the cloud of morning sickness, I am ready to … Continue reading

Family Reunion Planning: Types and Themes

I may have gotten ahead of myself in this family reunion planning series, since technically this post should have come before my post about budget, venue, and food. Considering the type of reunion you will have, and any theme you may want, will help tremendously when determining your reunion budget. TYPES Small, intimate gatherings are probably the easiest and most inexpensive family reunions to plan. These often include just a few of your closest family members, and may be held in celebration of a special event, such as an anniversary, birthday, graduation, baby shower, etc. Medium-sized family reunions can also … Continue reading

Hollywood Moms Working on… Jewelry, New Jobs, and Baby Names

She just added new mom to her resume, but Nicole Richie says she’s not stopping there. The self-professed “girly-girl” is bringing her love of bling to the masses by creating her own line of costume jewelry. The former reality TV star has teamed up with Mouawad, the company who also produces Heidi Klum’s fine jewelry collection, to create a line for young women. According to company execs, Richie approves all sketches prior to production. As for how the new mom is juggling her role as designer and full time dairy queen to her breastfeeding infant, Richie insists that she has … Continue reading

What to do When Nobody Gives You a Shower

Baby showers are a fun and traditional part of pregnancy. Most women have a shower for at least the first baby. Showers for second or subsequent pregnancies are becoming more common. Many women still don’t get a shower for second pregnancies. If you aren’t getting a shower, but really want one, you may be considering asking someone to host the shower. This is not considered proper shower etiquette. Hosting a shower for yourself is not proper etiquette either. Although showers for second babies are becoming more common, they aren’t customary. Your friends and family may still believe showers are for … Continue reading

A New Trend: Couples Showers

A baby showers for couples is a fast growing new trend. These showers differ from the typical baby shower in that men are invited as well as women. When we were invited to our first couples shower, my husband said, “Since when do men go to baby showers?” He was very unsure about the idea, but ended up having a good time. When planning a couples shower, be sure to include the information on the invitation. Many people still assume that showers are for women only. You’ll need to specify that the men are invited too on the invitation. Choose … Continue reading
