Planning a Nursery

Which Peter Pan is the Best?

Charming is one word that we could apply to just about any Disney animated film, and even though 1953’s “Peter Pan” certainly is that, it’s devoid of charm when compared to the play/novel on which it was based. One of Walt Disney’s greatest strengths was his ability to take an older story and reinvent it for modern audiences. Doing so for “Peter Pan,” however, just replaces what is a wry and sweet sense of humor with silly slapstick, which seems cheap in comparison. A primary reason why Barrie’s book, and presumably his play, is so charming is its witty, very … Continue reading

One thing I wasn’t aware of then was how many chemicals a baby is exposed to from birth. In order to protect our children we need to be aware of what they are exposed to regularly. Baby furniture can contain formaldehyde. Crib mattresses give off … Continue reading

The Crib Bedding Dilemma

After buying a crib bedding set for the arrival of our son and after realizing that we may never again have a dedicated nursery (our two children will be sharing for awhile at least), I have decided that all those uber cute themed nursery sets are not for me or my psuedo nursery. I like things to match and the only way to guarantee the longevity of matching bedding is to go white. I am realizing that going white is easier said than done. After spending countless hours on-line trying to find “white” crib bedding that is modern, clean, and … Continue reading

Two Tricks to Organizing Your Toddler’s Room

Do you remember the time when you first set up your child’s nursery? I bet the crib bedding was just right, the matching rug was centered, the cute toys waited on shelves, and the room emitted a sense of peace. Well fast forward a couple of years later, and you now find the room in complete chaos, with toys scattered all over the floor, a jumble of stuffed animals and books on the bed, and learning toys that force you to “learn” how to find all of the missing pieces.
