Protect your Ears

Our trip to the doctor’s office today was spurred by continued sick days with our son. He has been waking up with 103 degree temperatures, been nursing every 30 minutes each night, and fluctuating between our normal, happy baby and an uncomfortable, unhappy, baby boy. Not only has this sickness adversely affected our son but it has also required me to miss two days of classes. Mom hasn’t been sleeping because of his desire to nurse every 30 minutes. Perhaps most difficult for Mom and Dad is seeing their little man being in pain and unhappy. We’d had enough! So … Continue reading

Nursing Nuisances: The Nursing Strike

No More Ear Tubes

If you had a child in the past who has suffered from chronic ear infections, he may have been treated with a round of antibiotics (or several rounds of several different kinds), and perhaps even, ear tubes. Has your little one been sick yet? They’re miserable, congested, can’t sleep (which in turn means you can’t sleep) and just generally cranky! Up all night, you pace, try sitting in the steaming bathroom, and maybe sometimes your desperate enough to use cold medicine? This could turn out to be a fatal error. The CDC is now issuing a warning to parents that they should never give their infants cough or cold medicine without talking to a physician. Recently, a medical examiner ruled that cough and cold medicine was the underlying cause in the death of three infants, ages 1 … Continue reading

All About Pink Eye

If your child is in day care, or is exposed to other kids at all, it is likely that you’ve had to deal with pink eye. My children are not even in day care, nor do they go to school, and we have had a few bouts of pink eye now. Here’s everything you need to know: What Is It? Pink eye, also known as conjunctivitis, can be caused by either bacterial or a virus. The eye will usually produce a thick, yellowish, discharge. The discharge, if it is enough, will “glue” the eyelids shut. Of course its easily removed … Continue reading
