What Kind of Diaper Bag Should You Buy?

I was shopping for diaper bags again, today. I already have two, but I’m pretty sure I have an addiction to diaper bag shopping. Lucky for my wallet, I don’t buy every one on the shelf, but if I had unlimited funds, I could really have a good time. One thing I am always looking for in a diaper bag is how compatible it might be with the way I diaper. I use cloth, so I need extra space for clean and dirty diapers. I carry around a very cute waterproof wet bag made by Planet Wise. It features a … Continue reading

My Last Blog

This is going to be my last blog as the Adoption Blogger for Families.com. I’m looking forward to spending the summer with my kids, possibly working at their school, and taking on new writing projects. I may well guest blog occasionally for this or other Families blogs. It seems the Adoption Blog will continue, so I hope this blog, along with Families’ forums, can be a source of information and community for adoptive parents, adoptees, and birth parents. Yesterday I could think of a million things to say in my last few blogs and wondered how I would fit it … Continue reading

Looking for Freebies and Deals

Pregnancy presents a unique opportunity to collect quite a few freebies. There are tons of companies out there that want your future business, and they are ready to hand over the goods to get it. Often the mail that results from signing up for these offers is the kind you want: samples, coupons and special offers. Your doctor’s office and hospital will likely give you items like free diaper bags, changing pads, planners and totes that are provided by formula companies. Even if you don’t plan on using formula, these “gifts” still come in handy. If you do plan on … Continue reading

Baby Products You Don’t Need

Yesterday, I was looking over the baby gift registry for a friend of mine, and I couldn’t help but smile. You could tell that the couple was caught up in baby mania, that euphoric state that you get when you first visit the baby store and are in the middle of your nesting period. You go crazy, because you just have to have all of those cute matching things to make your nursery perfect. At the same time, you find that once the baby has arrived, you are short on the essentials that you really need. As an experienced mom … Continue reading

Diaper Calisthenics

Sometime around the fifth or sixth month, changing diapers can be a real workout for both you and your baby. Diaper calisthenics are when you struggle with your baby and wrestle to get the diaper on when the last thing they want to do is lay on their back and have their genitals cleaned with a very cold diaper wipe. In fact, once crawling becomes a factor – your baby can easily take off naked across the floor at high speed. The first couple of times this happens, you are likely going to be laughing a great deal. After a … Continue reading

What’s In Your Trunk–Part 2

In “What’s In Your Trunk—Part 1,” I relayed advice I received from an organization “guru” (a.k.a. my neat-freak friend, Eric), regarding organizing the contents of my vehicle’s trunk. Part one dealt with what essential items should be stored in a trunk. Part two will deal with how to fit the “essentials” along with everyday items (for example, I have a toddler, so I store a stroller and spare diaper bag in my trunk) without having to hitch a trailer on your vehicle to accommodate everything. And with summer just around the corner, this blog will also provide a few tips … Continue reading

Heaven Scent Crystals are Better than Candles!

I found something special this summer when I visited the California Mid State Fair! Heaven Scent sells aroma crystals in a variety of scents. They are inexpensive, last a long time, and go where candles cannot. This makes them a much better deal than candles. These aroma crystals are made from salt, that has been infused with blended oils that have a fragrance. This makes them a green product, made from very natural ingredients. I am a person who suffers from severe allergies, especially if I encounter scented products. However, I have managed to find several different kinds of aroma … Continue reading
