How a Transgender Couple Became Parents

When a couple is ready to become parents, they will do almost anything to make that happen. The desire to produce children who carry the parent’s DNA is strong. The Bowsers are a couple who wanted to have children and were able to produce two healthy sons that are biologically their own. The thing that makes this happy story a little different is that both parents happen to be transgender. Bianca and Nick Bowser were featured on 20/20. Their story is, in many ways, similar to thousands of other couples. They met. They fell in love. They eventually decided that … Continue reading

Daddy is Home

After years of toiling in the late evenings and sometimes even into the next day, daddy is finally home at a family friendly “normal” time and the kids could not be happier. My husband worked very strange hours over the past several years and it would be an understatement to say it had a somewhat undesirable effect on our family. Because he worked so long and so late, breakfast became the most important meal of the day (which it is anyway by virtue of its necessity) because it was often the only meal we shared. Because he worked so long … Continue reading

Shopping with Grandma and Grandpa Part III

While my daughter, mother-in-law, and I were picking out shoes for my daughter, grandpa and my son were busy finding some dress pants for daddy; grandpa felt that he (daddy) must be in need of some new “khaki” pants to wear to work (my husband typically wears jeans to work without issue). Still grandpa wanted to buy my husband some new pants so he and my son had the sales woman collecting many different options while my son apparently entertained her with his antics. After a quick nursing break for my daughter and after grandma touched base with grandpa; my … Continue reading

Family Road Trip Highlights And Low Points

Tonight is our last night in the beach house here in Palm Coast, Florida. Tomorrow we will be embarking on our journey back to Vermont. So far, the trip has been fun. It has been tons of fun at times, and loads of stress at others. Of course, these things are par for the course when you take a family road trip. There have been some wonderful moments during this vacation. Yesterday was very special, as it was my sister’s wedding day. The boys both had a good day behavior – wise and things went smoothly. From spending time with … Continue reading

Introducing Your Kids to Someone New

One of things that many single parents wonder is when it is ok to introduce your children to someone new. While there is no straight forward answer, there are many things to consider as you are contemplating bringing someone new into your children’s lives. This is a tender time for children and can affect them in many different ways. Understand that this may be a difficult transition for your children and proceed with care. Before you introduce your children to someone, be sure to talk to them about it. Let them express their feelings to you about this new person. … Continue reading

Grandmother Gives Birth to Her Own Grandson

In Athens, Georgia, a 45 year old woman has given birth to a baby that is actually her grandson. This makes her the fourth grandmother in the United States to act as a surrogate for her grandchild. Interestingly, the process involved will not change the kinship terms in this family. Krista Saxon and her husband wanted to become parents. In 2010, Krista’s gynecologist told her that she might not be able to become pregnant because she wasn’t producing enough eggs. The couple started to consider the possibility of recruiting a “gestational carrier” (which might also be called a surrogate). The … Continue reading

Pick Me Up!

My little guy is at such a fun stage right now, but there are some things that he does that are not so fun. I have a little secret. My baby yells at me! It sounds funny to say it, but it is the best way to describe what he does to let me know he is not happy. Gone are the days when he had a little sweet newborn cry. With a full house with three kids, he has to make sure he gets mama’s attention. I guess that means that sometimes he needs to step it up a … Continue reading

The Meatball’s Here

So, yeah, Snooki’s mini meatball is here. Stop the presses! And by presses, I mean actual news media, which should be warning people about a massive hurricane that’s taking aim at a very vulnerable part of the United States, but instead, is wasting time, money and life-sustaining oxygen chatting about a reality TV star giving birth to a baby boy. And not just any reality TV star, a sex-crazed, fist-pumping, potty-mouthed MTV celeb best known for her displays of public drunkenness, debauchery, and string of douche bags boyfriends. Did I mention she’s a mom now? “Jersey Shore” star Nicole “Snooki” … Continue reading
