Birth Order Poems for Scrapbooking Your Children

In 1971, Erma Bombeck wrote poems on how mom loves you best to all the children in the family. There are so many different versions traveling around now. Here are a few that are adorable for your scrapbook. Dear First Born I’ve always loved you best because you were our first miracle. You were the genesis of a marriage and the fulfillment of young love. You sustained us through the hamburger years, the first apartment, our first mode of transportation (1955 Feet), and the seven-inch TV we paid on for 36 months. You were new, had unused grandparents, and enough … Continue reading

Product Review: Baby Monitor

I love finding good deals on baby items. I subscribe to websites that feature deeply discounted baby items for a limited time, and can barely contain my excitement when a product I’ve been coveting for a long time appears at 50% off its regular selling price. What I love even more than finding a good deal on a baby item is when I get a baby item for free. I was recently contacted by an employee of The First Years baby brand, wondering if I’d be willing to test and review one of their latest models of baby monitors. He … Continue reading

Registering? Talk To Your Mommy Friends First

Registering for your baby shower can be a little overwhelming. And by “a little overwhelming,” I really mean horrifying! There are so many different types of cribs, so many different models of car seats, glass bottles, plastic bottles, plastic bibs, cloth diapers, diaper pails, diaper genies, baby gates, play yards, walkers, bouncers, jumpers and… [breathe] so much more to choose from. How is a mother-to-be expected to choose? When I started my baby registry, my first instinct was to read product reviews on store websites. I quickly found this to be a bad idea because it seems that the majority … Continue reading

What’s in a Name? Naming Your Baby After Someone Else

When we were searching for a baby name, the most difficult thing to juggle was the connotation that each name brought forth. My husband and I both teach, and so we’ve encountered just about all of the common names worn by many, many different children. As each name came up, it came with connotations from years gone by. Can’t name her Brianne…it reminds me of someone who tormented me in school. Alana? Kids with that name are always jokers, and since our child will be a model of perfection, well, that name’s out. And wasn’t there a 1980s star who … Continue reading

Hair Raising Dilemma: Who Calls the Shots in Your Family?

I didn’t have to take a brush to my daughter’s hair until she was nearly 2 years old. She simply didn’t have enough to warrant doing so. (This is how her hair looked until she was about 19 months. Sort of.) Currently, her locks don’t grace her shoulders or flow to the middle of her back like her best friend’s, but she couldn’t care less. Given her genetic make up she likely won’t have luxuriously, thick, sleek locks that blow seductively when windswept like overpaid supermodels. Rather, she will have to make do with thin, wispy hair that struggles to … Continue reading
