Dividing Your Time

One of the strategies that I use to make sure I get enough time to rest and get things done is I divide my to-do list into two categories: things I can do when my son is awake and things I must do while he is asleep. There are certain tasks, like washing dishes, that are best performed when he is awake. He can play in the kitchen, and if I give him a few clean pots and pans to play with, he is a happy camper. Writing is something I need to do when he is asleep. I need … Continue reading

Safety Products You Can Live Without

I’m definitely not saying that you shouldn’t baby proof your house. Let’s be clear about this right from the start. But I am saying that the folks who make all these lovely little safety devices would have you believing that danger lurks in every room, around every corner. Dare I say that the best kind of safety is the old fashioned kind? (That’s right–plain old fashioned keeping an eye on your kids is the best kind of accident prevention.) Refrigerator Latches Granted each of my children has done their own version of a science experiment answering the question: What happens … Continue reading

Merry (Poison Free) Christmas

2007 has been the year of the recall. If you set your google alerts to pull out stuff on “recalls” your inbox would be full before the day is over, I’m sure of it. Some of the recalls, in my opinion are rather dumb. Take for example, the Bumbo seat which was pulled off shelves after a parent left their child unattended on top of a table in a Bumbo seat. The child got out of the seat and fell from on top of the table and sustained serious head injuries. However, I don’t believe Bumbo is responsible for the … Continue reading

Bye Bye Bumbos! Hello Good Parenting?

I do not write about every recall there is. If I did, the baby blog would be filled with absolutely nothing but information on recalls. It seems like in these days, something is getting recalled daily. However, the bumbo seat has been a popular topic in our forums and so I thought I’d write about the decision that came down earlier today, to recall all the bumbo seats ever made. Apparently, they could be dangerous. The voluntary recall was issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the seats are sold for about $40. I have read from various sources … Continue reading
