Teeth

It kind of snuck up on me. My daughter was growing and changing and learning new things, but she was still toothless. I was pleased. I could wait for the biting and chewing to begin. However, anxious family members were asking me when I thought she would get her first tooth. Of course I replied that I had no idea but that I was hoping it would not be for a while. A while did not last very long. Not long after she reached six months her first bottom tooth broke through without any warning. She was not particularly fussy … Continue reading

Baby Blog Month in Review: July 2008

Two of my three children are summer babies. That is, they were born in the summer and had their first months surrounded by sunshine streaming in the windows, the sound of birds chirping, and days spent wearing nothing but a diaper and a “onsie.” I made sure that they had Fourth of July outfits ready, even though one of them arrived a week after the holiday. I guess he just wasn’t interested in the parade. Do you have a summer baby, too? We had a lot of new information to share this past month, such as recall notices and new … Continue reading

Keeping Baby Teeth

Here at the Romans family home, we have been experiencing a new milestone. My first born is now old enough to start losing his teeth. This has been an exciting time here. The bottom two teeth are now gone, off in tooth fairy land, traded for two shiny gold dollar coins. But it has me wondering, is it worth storing those baby teeth for years to come? I admit that I am torn. My husband thinks that it is pretty gross to save these teeth. This was said by the man who religiously kept almost every bloody band aid from … Continue reading

The Pets Blog Week in Review for March 3-9

Aimee and I were busy beavers last week. In case you were too and missed any of our articles, here’s our Week in Review recap for your cheating (er, I mean catching up) pleasure… Monday, March 3 In Aimee’s first Diary of a Cat Care B&B entry for the week, she discussed her bulletin board she’s assumed responsibility for and asked for suggestions. Me and my crew presented “The Case of Who Cut the Cheese” after a stinky episode in our house Friday night. Aimee detailed the four most common worms in pets. Tuesday, March 4 Have you ever wondered … Continue reading

Baby Blog in Review: April Thus Far

What can I say other than ‘oops’? I forgot to post a week in review for the baby blog last week. I was just coming back from vacation, had mountains of laundry and other sundry things to take care of and well, I just forgot. So this week, I will bring you the baby blog review starting from April 1st! Sunday, April 1 April started off controversially with a blog entitled Weak White Males and the Difference Race Makes in Preemies. This is a discussion on the statistical tendency for males, especially caucasion males to mature the slowest in the … Continue reading

Formula Mixed With Fluoride Water May Discolor Teeth

I recently read an article that I want to share with any bottle-feeding mothers out there. It is concerning fluoride in the local water supply. Babies that are fed formula mixed with water that contains fluoride may receive too much fluoride. In November the American Dental Association released a statement stating their concern about the amount of fluoride that infants and toddlers are receiving in their bottles. The State Department of Health and Human Services is asking the FDA to look into the matter. Instead of helping teeth grow stronger too much fluoride is actually damaging. It causes teeth that … Continue reading

The Flu Shot for Baby-Is it Necessary?

In our house, we have always been big proponents of the flu shot. We all get them every year. And, it is that time of year again. My husband works in the medical field, and in past years, he has had to be in contact with flu patients regularly. Since our children are young, we have always been cautious. In his current job, he is not in close contact with patients infected with the flu, although he does still work in a hospital. So, I found myself asking him if it was really necessary. I had never really questioned it … Continue reading

What Was Life Like In 1940?

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to travel back in time? I often daydream about what life was like in the 1930’s and 1940’s. I don’t know why I do that, but I do. While I have not found a time machine to transport me there yet, I did find a fun and very addictive program on the Ancestry.com website. In celebration of the release of the 1940 Census, the folks at Ancestry.com know that many researchers likely have the 1940’s on their minds as they sift through census data, digging for new clues about ancestors from … Continue reading

Road Trip with Baby

As if traveling last month with my baby on his first plan trip wasn’t enough, we decided to make a big road trip last week to the beautiful Lake Tahoe for a family member’s wedding. I knew my older two children would be easily entertained in the car with movies and my iPod, but was really worried about how my 9 month old would do. The only other car trip that we went on with him since he was born, was about a 4 hour trip. This one was much longer (closer to 9 hours), but on that 4 hour … Continue reading
