New Jersey has a Baby Box Initiative

New Jersey has become the first state to adopt what has been called the Baby Box initiative. The idea comes from Finland and is also used in Canada. The main purpose of the program is to reduce the chances of sudden infant death syndrome. The New Jersey Baby Box Initiative was inspired by the Finnish Baby Box intervention, which has led to Finland having the lowest infant mortality rates in the world. New Jersey’s Child Fatality & Near Fatality Review Board (CFNFRB) now offers free Baby Boxes to every new or expecting family in New Jersey. The Baby Box itself … Continue reading

Are Two Naps for Baby Cramping Your Style?

While to many people it might seem ideal to have your baby take two naps a day, it can also cramp you style a little bit. And, by style, I don’t mean your actual style, but I mean that it can make outside activities, playdates, errands, and chores a little bit difficult. I have said before that I love schedules. But, when babies take two naps a day, that makes the schedule very tight. You have a couple of hours to run errands or do outside activities in the morning, a couple in the afternoon, and then a few in … Continue reading

Life Goes On With Toddler And Baby

I am not sure what I expected life with a baby and a toddler would be like. In fact, I am pretty sure that I did not have any expectations. For some reason, I simply did not think about what it would be like until Blake came along. In hindsight it is probably best that I did not have any preexisting expectations because they may have been completely different than what has actually transpired during the past seven months. The first couple of months were a blur, as things normally are after the arrival of a new baby. Time passed, … Continue reading

Baby Animals at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

We interrupt your regularly scheduled details of the Animal Kingdom to bring a special post about the park: a highlight of all of the baby animals born there in the recent months. I could talk about the special tours and shopping found there (and I will eventually), but a choice between that and adorable baby animals? Please, I’m going with the cute. The most recent addition to the Animal Kingdom came in June, in the form of a baby okapi. Okapis look like they’re some kind of deer, or strange deer-like horses that are related to zebras, because they have … Continue reading

Back to School & Baby

This past week marked back to school for my oldest. I will miss having her around! She is such a big help to me in so many ways. She keeps her 3 year old brother entertained, and is always willing to help out with her baby brother too. Sometimes, she will climb into his crib in the morning to play with him. She will always go into wherever he might be fussing if I am in the middle of something if I ask her to and entertain him for a few minutes. She can make him smile like no other … Continue reading

Life With Toddler And Baby – It Gets Easier

It has been about three and a half months since Dylan’s little brother Blake was born. In some ways it feels like it was just yesterday, but in other ways it feels like it has been much longer than three and a half months. Perhaps that is because things have gotten much easier with time. Life with a baby and a toddler is never exactly easy, but when I compare what our days feel like right now to what they felt like when Blake was just a few weeks old there is a huge difference. It is only natural to … Continue reading

Who Will Get Up With The Baby?

In the past, I have always nursed my babies, so I have always been the one to get up with them. Now that I am bottle feeding, we are trying to figure out what works best for my husband and I so that we both can get some much needed sleep. With three little ones to take care of, sleep is hard to come by these days. What has been working for us is that my husband gets up at the first feeding, and then I get up at the second. This is mostly because I do better in the … Continue reading

The Shift To Summer Schedules Is Coming

Many home – based professional parents are able to work the hours that they do because their children go to school. However, school is not a year – round activity. When summer comes, home – based professional parents must decide what they would like to do with their work schedule. Sometimes, it is possible for a parent to scale back their work during the summer months so that they can spend a lot of time with their children. There’s also the option of hiring a babysitter or a parent’s helper to take care of the kids for a few hours … Continue reading
