Usually with a recall, there have been several cases of injury or illness to real babies, prompting the recall, although some responsible manufacturers will voluntarily recall merchandise as a precaution if they get complaints or see a possible problem during continued testing. Here are the latest recalls on baby products including cribs. By the way, the book, Baby Bargains usually have information on which manufacturers have the most recalls. Stork Craft Baby Cribs There are about 535,000 cribs involved in the recall because the metal mattress support brackets can break or crack. If this happens, the mattress could collapse, creating a gap. The baby could then get trapped and suffocate in the crib. These cribs were sold at Walmart, Kmart, J.C. Penny, Amazonn.com, BabiesRUs.com and Costco.com between May 2000 and January 2009. Taggies Sleep'n Play Baby Clothing These garments are being recalled because the snaps could detach and cause a choking hazard. The garments feature the following styles: Fun Dog Print, Butterfly Applique, Dinosaur Applique, Pink Toss Print. The are one-piece style outfits that have snaps down the front. Look for the code RN No. 27829 sewn on the care label. This is also a good moment to remind us all that snaps can come loose from almost any baby garment that is very worn. Thin, second-hand onsies are especially vulnerable to having snaps just tear off. Always inspect your baby's clothing before you put it on your child. It is infuriating that they won't recall things until too many babies have been hurt or died. This is true with almost anything not just baby stuff. Manufactures will determine which is cheaper, lawsuits or replace/modify the item. Mary Ann Romans |
