Baby Goes Missing Under the Floorboards

by Mary Ann Romans | More from this Blogger

texture Here is a news story from Oregon that is a definite lesson in providing a safe environment for your baby!

In Portland, a little girl, aged 1 went missing in her grandparents home. The child's father had fallen asleep in a room along with his three children, a five-year-old, a three-year-old and a one-year-old. Around 5 a.m. the next morning, the father woke up to find that the baby was missing. After a quick search of the house, the police were called and the family feared the worse.

Officers searched the house and grounds for the baby but couldn't find her. After more than two hours, one officer heard the baby cough, and it was discovered that the baby was under the floorboards of the house. At first, they couldn't figure out how she got there.

The room was cleared of all of the furniture, and the floor was torn up to rescue the baby. She emerged completely unharmed, just a little dirty. The best explanation of how the baby got under the floor was that she might have fallen off of the bed and into a hole in the floor where she got stuck and then wiggled her way down.

After the baby was rescued, the Department of Human Services was called. They found both the grandparents' and parents' homes unsuitable for children because the homes were too dirty, and the children were taken into custody.

Wow this is an interesting story. On the one hand, you have to feel badly for the parents, but on the other hand the story has a happy ending in that the child was unhurt. What a tragedy it would have been if the baby had never been found. Hopefully, the family will get some help in creating a safe environment for the children.
