The Best Laundry Detergents for Baby Clothes

Washing your baby’s clothing separately from the laundry belonging to the rest of the family is a very good idea. Everyday soil, perfumes, body lotions, wool fibers and other additives and even clothing dyes from other clothing can get on your baby’s clothing during the washing process and can irritate young skin. Regular laundry detergents can also be an irritant. In my experience, certain brands of laundry detergent work better than others at cleaning baby clothes but remaining gentle on baby skin. Here are my picks. All Free and Clear This is the main laundry detergent I used for my … Continue reading

Baby Blog Week in Review: May 31 to June 7

Did you miss a blog these last two weeks? We had a lighter couple of weeks in the baby blog–mostly due to the Delp Family June Madness. We did nothing short of five birthday parties (this is my husband’s job) two recitals and a graduation. In fact, we were so light on the blogs the week before, I couldn’t do a week in review. So if your last few weeks have been anything like ours, you’ll likely have some reading to catch up on! So here’s what we covered this week. Saturday, May 31 The Pressure to Perform I am … Continue reading

Why You Shouldn’t Bathe Your Baby. . .

. . .every day. I don’t know how many of you do this. Maybe our family is disgustingly dirty and I just didn’t realize it. But I have never, not at any point in my babies’ lives, bathed them once a day unless every day they were out playing in dirt. Since little babies can’t play in dirt until they’re mobile, they were bathed once or twice a week. Even now that my kids are older, I prefer to bathe them as needed. . .which can be once a day. . .but isn’t necessarily. Apparently, the experts agree with me: … Continue reading

Baby Eczema

If your baby has had eczema or is prone to it, you know that it is a pain to get rid of and something that you have to really stay on top of in order to treat effectively. What Is It? Eczema is a skin rash also known as atopic dermatitis. It often crops up between the ages of 2 months and 2 years. In our experience, children usually outgrow it, but in the meantime, it leaves baby’s skin with scaly, red, itchy patches. If it is scratched too much it can ooze and bleed and become infected. Since it … Continue reading

Organizing Your Kitchen When You Have a Special Diet

It’s official. You have an allergy. Your child has a food intolerance that’s causing eczema. Your nursing baby seems to be reacting to something in your diet. The logistics of moving to a new diet can seem overwhelming. I know, because I’ve been around that block a couple of times now, and I am sure there is more to come. In my late teens, I became very sensitive to milk and has to switch my diet around. Then I got type 1 diabetes, which made me rethink how I eat and made it essential to count the carbohydrates in every … Continue reading

Give It Your ALL

My daughter contracted eczema when she was 16 months old. The doctor confirmed her condition the same week I planned to stop buying Dreft laundry detergent. For those of you who don’t know, Dreft has been around for nearly 80 years. What’s more, it has held the honor of being the most recommended baby laundry detergent in the world, for almost as long as it has been on store shelves. Dreft is gentler than traditional laundry soaps and is especially efficient in cleaning baby items. However, it is also more expensive than most traditional laundry detergents. Needless to say, with … Continue reading

Hypafix

Even though my daughter Lily no longer has her feeding tube, I would be remiss if I did not tell you all about one of the greatest products ever. It’s called Hypafix, and it’s an adhesive tape used to hold dressings in place. However we used it to hold Lily’s tube in. When we first learned that Lily would need a feeding tube, adhesive tape was the least of our worries. However, once we got her home, it slowly crept to the top of our list, because that tape is pretty much the only thing keeping you from another trip … Continue reading
