Sometimes I wish I Could Still Keep them Close

I was a baby-wearer—even though it was really just the beginning of the current “attachment parenting” movement when my children were babies nearly two decades ago, and I did not have a rebozo or other sort of wrap, I still carried my babies first in the “front pack” as I called it and then on my back for the first year or so of their lives. In fact, I quickly learned that with a newborn and young infant, wearing them was so much easier, kept them happier, and made it possible for me to tend to other children and duties … Continue reading

Babies Need to Crawl

I remember when my oldest daughter was of crawling age, she didn’t crawl. People told me how important it was to crawl, how I should have her checked out and how perhaps there was something wrong with her. The truth of the matter is, when it comes to gross motor skills, she’s always been a little slow. She gets there eventually, but she’s always at the end of what is considered “normal”. Ease Your Child’s Transition: Learn Cultural Child Care Practices

This got me thinking about the difference in child care among cultures. I would urge adoptive parents to learn as much as they can about child care in their child’s country, and if possible how your child in particular was cared for. Especially for the older baby or toddler, keeping some … Continue reading

My Advice to New Moms

I have recently made a switch. I was blogging almost exclusively for the homeschooling blog at families.com but now I have switched to baby! This switch has prompted some reflection on the last year of my life as a mother of infants who are now toddlers, a toddler who is now a “big girl”, a “big boy” who is now a ‘young man’ and a ‘young lady’ who is now a tween. Thinking about what I might like to share in the baby blog, I started thinking about the last few years of life. Twins Come In a Set You … Continue reading

The Essential Ring Sling and Why It’s. . .Essential

I am admitting my bias here but I love unpadded ring slings! I have recently bought two for my twins, and while I know there are a variety of carriers to choose from, I am convinced that unpadded ring slings are the easiest and most versatile. So, I’ll tell you from the beginning of this blog that if you are not sure what type of baby carrier to buy keep reading. Let me convince you why the ring sling is an essential piece of baby equipment for the baby wearing mommy. Unpadded vs. Padded Slings that are sold in stores … Continue reading

Now that you have read the Overview, searched for a local cache, understand how to read the clue, you are ready to prepare to set out on your hunt! Preparation: There is just a little bit of pre-hunt preparation that needs to be done before you head out the door. Don’t worry, it won’t take long. First, check the weather. It is never fun to be caught out in bad weather in the middle of a long hike far from home! If the weather is questionable, double check that you have picked a hunt that does not have a long … Continue reading
