Who Is at Risk for Calcium Deficiency?

Certain types of people may be at higher risk of calcium deficiency than others. They may need extra calcium in their diets (or in supplement form) in order to prevent a deficiency. Postmenopausal women may be at higher risk for calcium deficiency. During menopause, many women experience increased bone loss — most rapidly during the first five years. Why is this? Question: I’ve read some stories about vegan parents who malnourished their baby while breastfeeding. Should I not breastfeed so that my baby can be healthy? Ask a Baby Blogger: Vitamin D Supplements & Breastfeeding

Question: I have heard that you are supposed to give your baby Vitamin D supplements if they are breastfeeding. I am not sure how I feel about this, but I am also concerned about rickets. I also follow a vegan diet. What is your opinion on giving vitamin supplements to exclusively breastfed babies? I have to say that I rarely go against the advice of my pediatrician.
