Picking out a gift for a baby shower can be tough when there are so many options out there. You can go for the traditional gifts including receiving blankets and baby supplies or you can check where they registered for some ideas. Not all mothers-to-be sign up for a baby registry when they are expecting a second or third child. You can ask what they need or you can shop for something unique. One reader is looking for a baby shower gift and her letter is below.

Baby Shower Gifts

Hi Heather,

I am thinking about buying this baby gift for my sister in law who is due on the 29th. What do you think? Contemporary 4 Tier Baby Diaper Cake. She is very "trendy" and I thought she might like it. Any advice you can give would be appreciated!

Dear Tina,

I followed the link to take a look at the gift. It's a neat idea and very unique. I think it will provide you with a gift that is both unique and practical. I am familiar with Lil' Baby Cakes, they actually specialize in these types of gifts. I gave something similar to a friend of mine a few years ago. This particular gift has a lot of Huggies diapers along with a teddy bear and other baby supplies.

Does your sister-in-law's baby shower have a theme? If it does and this doesn't mesh with the theme, you might want to reconsider. Teddy bears tend to be a popular theme to match with, but this is also a gift that can double as the perfect centerpiece. If you are throwing the shower yourself, then it's ideal for a gift. If it does clash with the theme of the baby shower, you might consider giving it to your sister-in-law after the baby is born in lieu of flowers.

If nothing else tickles her about the gift, the Size 1 diapers will be very useful in the first few weeks after the birth. If her baby is due the 29th of this month, the shower must be coming up relatively soon, so shipping may also be an issue, I'd check on the cost of the shipping versus the cost of the present. You may also be able to create something similar yourself if you have the time and wherewithal. Please let us know how it goes!
