Adventures in Potty Training: Day 3by Mary Ann Romans | More from this Blogger 30 Apr 2009 07:50 AM When you are potty training, there are many milestones. Fortunately, we hit a big one today. After another dry night (actually, all of the nights have been dry, thankfully), our little potty trainee decided to let it all go, all over the living room floor first thing in the morning. Truth be told, it was more the fault of the adults, since we were so busy trying to get everyone ready during the morning rush. Our little guy said frantically, "I'm going!" And, well, he went. I don't believe in yelling or strong words for potty accidents, so we just reminded him where the "pee pees" go and got him to help clean up. Of course I cleaned it up first, and then had him go over it with a towel. Taking a hand in the responsibility of an accident helps little kids feel more in control, I think, and reinforces the fact the floor isn't the right place for the mess. Our big milestone was that he finally "pooped" in the potty. This was met with lots of praise and a chance to pick a small prize. I did not, however, take a photo of the poop, as Kate did on Jon & Kate Plus Eight. There are just some things that I don't need documenting. Of course, I wouldn't have a film crew come in during potty training, either, but that is the subject of another post. Things were looking good for the rest of the afternoon, nap time included. Close to bed time, he did have another accident on the floor. The pattern seems to be that accidents occur during the times that are most hectic for the family. This makes complete sense of course. Early potty trainers often have to be reminded to use the potty until they get used to responding to their body's signals. One more day at home to go before we have to venture out into the world, diaper free.
