Losing the Pregnancy Weight Part III

Burning calories is some what intangible. I really have no idea how many calories I am burning each day by breast feeding my daughter. I would like to give credit to a healthier diet and a commitment to long term exercise for my seemingly quicker come back from having my daughter. Having these habits in the beginning really do make a difference. At almost five weeks post-partum I have not actively worked at loosing the excess weight for very long. My efforts have just begun and I am determined to get closer to my pre-pre pregnancy weight (what I weighted … Continue reading

The Second Week Post-Partum Part III

My second week post-partum continued into the day after Christmas. While I anticipated having a very low key and largely uneventful day, I was feeling amazingly refreshed and was itching to go shopping. It did not even cross my mind that December Twenty-Sixth was one of the busiest shopping days of the year; I just wanted to go shopping. I picked up one of my younger sisters to accompany me and help with my son (I stilled needed to get my hands on a double stroller to keep both of my children contained and safe). Ask a Baby Blogger: Can Too Much Exercise Make Your Milk Sour?

Several have posed this question to me recently so I thought I would take some time today in the baby blog to answer it. It used to be that conventional wisdom told mothers not to exercise while breastfeeding. When you exercise your body increases the production of lactic acid which would make your milk taste sour to the baby and would either upset her stomach or cause her to reject it. Babies in the News: Cocaine Laced Breastmilk

This is a sad, sad story. There are so many things that I can’t understand about this story but I’m getting ahead of myself. A woman was breastfeeding her 5 month old daughter. Apparently the mother was on drugs and her milk was tainted with cocaine. Her baby died from a cocaine overdose. The mother was originally charged with involuntary manslaughter, a felony which would have given her 9 months in jail. However, the prosecution reduced the charges when she agreed to a plea deal. She pled guilty to attempted man-slaughter, and in addition to the short stint in jail, … Continue reading

5 Things to Know about “Mummy Tummy” or Diastasis Recti

Diastasis recti, is the separation of normally joined abdominal muscles– frequently as a result of pregnancy. Diastasis occurs with approximately 1/3 of women who have had a baby. This is frequently what technically leads to lower back pain during pregnancy. (As your belly gets bigger, the abdominal muscles separate and your lower back no longer has its muscular support fram.) It is not necessarily painful, and does not usually require surgery to repair. You can tell if you have this condition if when you try to do a sit up a ridge forms in the middle of your belly from … Continue reading
