I Love You Anyways

On a recent trip to the library, one of the books that Dylan picked out is “Olivia”, by Ian Falconer. He has asked me to read that book to him so many times that I have lost track. You know what, though? Even if I have read it to him fifty times I could read it to him fifty more. I just love that book. Why do I love “Olivia” so? I probably have as many reasons as the book has pages. One reason that I love it is that the main character, Olivia the piglet, reminds me so much … Continue reading

Tales from the Potty: Potty Mouths

If you are just joining me on my adventure in potty training the twins, don’t worry–you haven’t missed all the action yet! I’ve talked about the method we’re going to use with them, and given some general tips. Today I am going to talk about a phenomenon that no parent can avoid (or at least not that I’m aware) during the potty training phase: the potty mouth. I read somewhere once that potty training is a child’s first introduction to sex education. All the parts are there, some functions are there and your response–either awkward or matter of fact–can shape … Continue reading

Why I Am Thankful to be a Mom

I’ve written about being a mom before and how much fun it is. But one of the things I’ve never written about, at least I don’t think I have written about one of the most profound reasons I am thankful for having had a baby. So let me share that with you here. When I was pregnant, I went through all the fears that mothers-to-be experience naturally. I worried that I wouldn’t be a good mother. I worried about whether I would resent the baby for taking up so much time. I worried about whether I would be able to … Continue reading

Did you know that …. Breast milk can do a great deal for treating your sick baby. You know that the colostrums in breast milk is good for helping your baby’s immune system, but did you know that you can actually use it to treat it a stuffy nose or a mild eye infection? Talk to your pediatrician first, … Continue reading

I Didn’t Realize Babies Came With Hats

There are many things that I remember about the day and the night surrounding the birth of my daughter. I remember that it was raining, a cold, drizzling rain. I remember going to see my OB/GYN for a late afternoon appointment. I remember my feet were swollen up like balloons and that I was wearing these oversized rope sandals because they were only thing comfortable. I remember walking across the cold pavement and not really feeling the cold at all. I remember that the doctor’s office was unusually busy and that every chair held a pregnant woman in varying stages … Continue reading

The Words and Wisdom of Gloria Steinem

Whether you agree with Gloria Steinem or not, her words are incredibly thought provoking. As a woman, a wife and a mother – I like the controversialist of her thoughts and statements. I like what they make me think about. In fact, I’m starting to think that I’m just an oddball because the more controversial and the more inflammatory the thoughts – the more I reaffirm my own beliefs and my own comfort level with my life and my choices in this life. Again, I’m probably just an oddball, but with this in mind. Here are some of my favorite … Continue reading

10 Least Favorite Parts of Toddlerhood

I shared with you some of the reasons why I love the stage of childhood we call toddler hood. Today, I want to talk about some of my least favorite parts of this particular stage. I’d like to preface the following remarks with the fact that it’s all right not to care for a particular phase your child is in. After all, not everything is pleasing – the rose may be beautiful and have a delightful fragrance, but the thorns can leave your fingers bloody. With that in mind, here are my 10 of my least favorite parts of toddlerhood, … Continue reading

10 Reasons Why I Love the Toddler Stage

There are multiple reasons why we love our babies and the first and foremost is simply because they exist. The following are the 10 reasons why I love the toddler stage for kids. I’ll ask you for yours after I’ve listed mine. Remember, the toddler stage is roughly between the ages of 12 and 24 months, give or take and it usually begins with their learning to toddle. 10 Reasons Why I Love the Toddler Stage I love their inestimable happiness at the simplest of things – they are delighted by grass and the clapping of hands I love that … Continue reading

The Toddler Pull

A couple of days ago, my daughter was digging around in the bin that houses all of her old baby toys. We’ve held onto them for sentimental reasons, for the most part, but there are four toys in there that were purchased for her on her first Christmas, so it’s neat to have those as some of the first Christmas gifts she ever received. One of the toys she pulled out and started playing with immediately enchanted my now walking (I can’t believe he is growing so fast!) 10 and half month old nephew. He toddled towards it excitedly and … Continue reading
